THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN THE STUDIO...
I've finally got enough parts made to actually start doing something with them- Yay! So the studio walls are getting done over with new installations based on radiolarians (single cell planktons) and medusas (jellyfish- which are also planktons! ) There are some more images here in this blog post on 'the dirt'. And if you haven't been paying attention lately, I've become obsessed with plankton. Seriously, obsessed.
I love that what defines all planktons is that they are all marine drifters, never fixing to a place and always going where ever the tides and currents may take them. I also love that most plankton can't be see with the naked eye but when there are large plankton blooms, they can be see from space in beautiful swirling patterns. They are the lifeblood of our planet and yet we hardly give them a second thought. All of these visuals and concepts will be used in my upcoming exhibition at the Eloise Pickard Smith Gallery as well as in my displays for Open Studios this fall. Very excited about making this work and sharing it with you! Now, I'm onto making more parts!
