Laser Focused on Getting Underway

Epoch friends, advisors, and investors,

This month we've been hunkered down on fine-tuning our hydrofoil system and hull design to prepare for our first commercial-ready boats.

Here's a recap of what our team has been up to this past month, and what to expect next from Epoch Boats.

JUNE UPDATE

Acceleration & Investment

This month we started our 6 week participation in the University of Pennsylvania's business accelerator program - Pennovation. Each week we meet up with the 2022 summer cohort of innovative Philadelphia area startups to further develop our business & investment strategy so we can scale up quickly.
Pennsylvania based Angel Investors - We are interested in connecting with active PA angel investors for non-investment mentoring related to the PA angel investment program. If you are one, or know of one who may be interested in this opportunity please get in touch with us.

Press Features

Additional coverage we received this month:
  • PropTalk Magazine - Epoch Boats was featured in the "Dock Talk" section of the July issue of PropTalk, the go-to publication for Chesapeake Bay power boating.
  • Outdoor Founders Roundtable: Epoch's Tom Ward was one of three Pennsylvania-based outdoor industry founders discussing Pennsylvania’s outdoor economy during a live virtual event June 15.

Waitlist Growth

Early customer demand for our Skiff Boat Series remains strong as we prepare for our preorder and commercial launch phases. If you are on our waitlist please hang tight - we hope to share next steps soon.

Production Updates

  • We received final approval from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to become a PA boat manufacturer (we're already registered with the U.S. Coast Guard - manufacturer code ANK.)
  • We're continuing to gather hull testing data, finalize foil specifications and fine-tune deck design as we prepare for our commercial-ready production.
  • Progress on our prototype is being shared with real-time updates on social media, so be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter. If you were forwarded a copy of this email be sure to subscribe for our monthly updates.

What Drives Us

The difference is clear.

This demonstration by ePropulsion (shared by The Green Tech Boat Show) compares an electric outboard against two and four stroke alternatives. The difference in water quality after 3 minutes running the outboards is clear to see.

The water on the non-electric outboard display on the right is murky due to direct hydrocarbon contamination (engine lubricants) and emissions.
Outboard engines are legally able to emit 132x more COx and 164x more NOx and HCs in their exhaust.

HCs = hydrocarbons (i.e. non-combusted gasoline)
NOx = nitrogen oxides (responsible for inhibiting crop growth by 10% - 25% per a recent study out of Stanford)

This is what drives us to focus on building an eco-friendly boat.
Our affordable, entry-level boats are designed to work efficiently with electric motors and attract more boaters to electric boating for the biggest possible impact on the environment.

What’s Next:

  • More on-water prototype testing! Keep an eye on social media for test updates, including video demos.
  • Boat Features & Options: We're continuing to evaluate standard features and available options, along with preferred suppliers. Final specifications will also be based on boater feedback and preferences.
