July Newsletter

Welcome to the July edition of the Contours Holidays newsletter. Summer is in full swing, and our customers are making the most of the fabulous weather by striking out into the epic Great British landscapes. We hope you are all having a brilliant time on your much-deserved holidays!

If you are considering a walking, cycling or trail running break this year, be sure to book as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment; the UK countryside is in high demand (and rightly so!) but there is still plenty of time to discover the trails your way in 2022. Thanks for reading, and Happy Adventures!

Featured Trail:

Rob Roy Way

The 76-mile Rob Roy Way from Drymen to Pitlochry was inspired by the adventures of Rob Roy McGregor, offering plenty of opportunity to lose yourself in the stories of Scotland’s most notorious outlaw. Coupled with the wide, shimmering lochs, atmospheric forests and far-reaching views, it is easy to feel like you are the only person for miles.

Hiking in Summer Tips

Here in the UK, the most popular time of year to enjoy an outdoor holiday is during the summer. While the sunny weather is normally great for our health and wellbeing, too much exposure to direct sunlight and hot weather can cause some problems, especially during a long-distance walk lasting several days. That’s why we put together this short film to help you prepare for your next warm-weather adventure.

Great Places to Explore
Along the Monsal Trail

By Rebecca Watkins

If you’re stuck for ideas on what to do on a lovely sunny bank holiday, I would highly recommend exploring the Monsal Trail and the great stops along the way. Not only is it a relatively flat trail, making it nice and easy to walk or cycle, but the tunnels also provide a cool respite on a hot day.

In total, the trail is around 18 miles long (nine miles each way). You can start from either end of the Monsal Trail, but as my boyfriend lives in Bakewell, we started from that end.

In case you missed it:

Walking the South Northumberland Coast Path

You may know the Northumberland Coast Path quite well: ancient castles, fishing villages, stunning beaches and a rugged and rocky coast eternally battered by the North Sea, all make for prime hiking country. There’s a metaphorical carrot dangling in front of every hiking day here, with a wealth of history and intrigue for you to discover.
