 Weekly Newsletter
1st July 2022

Dear Parents,
Thank you to the children, parents and staff who supported us at Lytham Club Day. The Attic Monkeys and Year 6 Singers played and sang brilliantly; great teamwork gained us the status of an award winning float!

We had the privilege to listen to 50 individual performers in the Prep Music Concert this week. The Prep Choir also sang amazingly at the Senior School Concert; the children are just as confident performing individually as they are in a group.

The Nursery and Infant Sports Day went ahead as planned, and after a false start, the Juniors Sports Day also went ahead today; the children's courage and determination to succeed were a delight to watch.

Finally, I hope to see you on Sunday for the PTA Summer Festival, 1.00pm to 4.00pm on the Senior School cricket pitches; thank you for sending in your donations today.

Nursery

In Bees this week we have been talking about Summer. The children have been counting 1-5 using pom-poms as ice cream scoops, and in our outdoor area, the malleable tray was set up with a giant beach ball and buckets.

This week in Ladybirds our topic has been 'Under the Sea.' We have been learning about the different animals that live under the sea and exploring our theme using the tuff trays. We have also enjoyed designing our own beach balls, buckets and spades.

Reception

The Reception children have continued to learn about minibeasts this week. They have been finding out about snails and making habitats for different bugs. The children were quite fascinated by the snails, especially the one they called 'Mr Adventurous' who was determined to escape from the tray. Magnifying glasses were used to look more closely at the tentacles, eyes and feelers.

Miss Allen and Mrs Walsh

Year 1

As we near the end of this academic year, we have begun to look back at the lovely things we have done together as a class. One of these is being able to play together after we have finished our work; for example, after learning about coins, we make time to apply what we have learned through a game.

We have made new friends this year and as a class we have learned the value of friends, discovering that sharing and caring for each other makes us all happier.

Mrs Smith and Mrs Brooker
Year 2
We have been busy completing topics and revising our knowledge this week. We learnt about coastal features and why the beach changes so much along our coastline, depending upon the wind and waves. We found the formation of arches and stacks very exciting!

Our DT topic is all about designing, creating and evaluating an ice cream sundae, which we are looking forward to eating.

Mrs Bleasdale
Year 3

In Year 3 this week as scientists we investigated the different parts of a flower and how plants transport water. In Art, we worked on our paintings to create detailed pictures of Lytham Hall in a Hundertwasser influenced style. We explored a range of vibrant colours and Mrs Hine showed us how to use oil pastels to define different features of building.

On Friday, we all dressed as rocks stars for the day, rocking our air guitars with some amazing outfits!

Mrs Blinston

Year 4

This week, as we near the end of the Summer term, Year 4 have been busy telling the time. We have used the terms 'to' and 'past' as well as using Roman numerals and problems solving questions.

Sadly, we have come to the end of our earthquake topic. The pupils have really enjoyed learning new words and lots of 'arhhs' were heard around the room when I announced this was the last lesson in this topic.

Happily, the pupils have been able to get outside this week making a 'sound map,' and practising their running skills in the PE lessons.

Mrs Briggs

Year 5
Year 5 have had a busy week! We have been working hard to complete our Art work. We are very near to the end of our novel, ‘There’s a Bot in the Girls’ Bathroom, which the children have loved reading.

In Science, we have investigated the solubility of different substances. We also explored the differences between a pure substance and a mixture.

  Mrs Whitaker and Mr Worthington
Year 6
Earlier in the week Year 6 were getting ready for Sports Day practising their relays, they understood it is not about just running faster, but applying the maximum amount of force down to the ground- great passing of the baton and acceleration techniques shown by Cerys and Jessica.

In Computing this week, the children have learning skills, tips and tricks for formatting formulas and using sequence, selection and repetition in programs whilst working with variables and various forms of input and output– great practical knowledge shown by Lukas and Muhammad.

Finally, in Geography, the children have been creating geographical sketches from photos taken from the local environment- brilliant annotation of key relevant details and human/ physical features shown by Georgina and Henry.
