Tom Ryan, who will be ordained on Sunday, describes how he had previously been told he was too old to be accepted for training but was encouraged by others who saw in him the qualities he didn't necessarily see in himself.

Jayne Manfredi, who is due to be ordained, has described how a local toddler group in Crewe helped her find God. The mother of four children was raised an atheist until everything "clunked into place".

Enabling all God's people
All are invited to a special service on 10 September in Bramhall to celebrate all of our different abilities.
As we give thanks for the unique gifts of those who are to be ordained on Sunday, so we look ahead to this diocesan event in September to celebrate the gifts of all those who minister and worship in our churches.
The Bible says we are all fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God and so the Diocese of Chester is pleased to host a service to celebrate all of our different abilities. Join the Bishop of Birkenhead, Julie Conalty, who will lead the service, and Darius Traves who will be our guest speaker.

Ministry hardship fund open to applicants
The Diocese of Chester has received a grant of £72,000 from the Archbishops’ Council as part of a nationwide scheme to assist clergy who are struggling with the cost of living crisis. After reading the accompanying information, clergy who think they may be eligible can complete an application and submit it for consideration. Full details can be found here. Applications must be made no later than 11 July.

Helping Treasurers help each other
Sharon Taylor-Booth at Church House is hoping to bring Treasurers together into an informal and supportive network where individuals can share their experiences and ideas with each other. To get things off the ground, Sharon is inviting all interested Treasurers to join her online for a Treasurers’ Surgery event. The hour-long event will be a place to share your Treasury-related queries and questions, no matter how small, and offer your own insights to others as well. No need to register, just follow this link on Monday 11 July at the time that suits you best.

FREE Mental Health and First Aid training
Together Wirral Churches Forum has teamed up with Transforming Lives Together and BeWell Wirral to provide a number of training opportunities for churches designed to help us be better equipped to respond to issues of mental health and suicide. Funding from Wirral CVF Renewal Fund is helping to provide free Mental Health and First Aid training, the normal cost being £300 plus VAT per person. Bishop Julie is encouraging all licensed clergy in Wirral to consider doing the MHFA training. For full details, see this poster.

Knife Angel chaplains wanted
The Knife Angel will be visiting Birkenhead Park throughout July, and the Salvation Army is training local Christians to offer chaplaincy support. If you're a good listener and can sensitively share your faith and pray with others, why not get in touch? For more information, see this poster.

3-week introduction to Christianity
Hope Explored, is a self-contained course that church leaders can use to help and guide others to look at the life, death and resurrection of Jesus in Luke’s Gospel. It does not require a huge time commitment and is one of the easiest ways to introduce others to Christianity.

Creating a faith-sharing culture lunchtime webinar
Leading in Evangelism is a brand new online course from the Church of England that church leaders can take with others from the congregation, at a time that works for them. It encourages your chosen group to think through what sharing the good news of God's love looks like in the place where you live. At a time when mental health agencies are in great demand, an initiative developed by the Diocese of Chester to support churches serving their schools is now open to all. Here to Help has been described by one Birkenhead Deputy Headteacher as having had “the most amazing impact” on her students. There are just a few spaces left, sign up here.

Tools with a Mission
Tools with a Mission (TWAM) is a Christian charity that transforms lives across Africa through the gift of skills, training and tools. They collect usable donated tools, refurbish them, sort them into trade kits and send them to the developing world for livelihood creation. Cranmer Awards open for entries
Young people aged 11 to 18 are invited to take part in this year's Cranmer Awards. The Cranmer Awards are an annual competition run by the Prayer Book Society to introduce young people to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer which has been described as the "bedrock of the Anglican Church".

Nominations open for National Church Awards
The first ever National Church Awards to celebrate churches and the people who use and look after them are now open for entries. The awards are open to any church, chapel or meeting house in the UK and are free to enter. Nominations will be judged by a team of church and heritage professionals.
