Too many yard waste carts?

If you don’t want your new yard waste cart you can return it. Simply call Customer Care Center at 919-996-3245 or email sws@raleighnc.gov.  Please help our neighbors who don't need their carts by sharing this information:

New yard waste carts -- nearly 110,000 of them -- are being delivered to residential customers throughout Raleigh. Delivery is nearly complete.

Along the way, many residents have requested we collect the new cart because they simply don't have room to store the 95-gallon yard waste cart along with their garbage and recycling carts of the same size.

To respond quickly to the volume of requests and maintain our core services, Solid Waste Services is now working with a contractor(s) to support collection of yard waste carts.
  • Carts will only be collected from properties that have submitted a pickup request via email or through our Customer Care Center.
  • Carts must be placed curbside and remain there until pickup, as contractors are not allowed to enter private property.
  • Pickups may be delayed if the yard waste cart is not curbside when the contractor arrive.
For questions about cart pickup or yard waste services, please call our Customer Care Center at 919-996-3245 or email us at sws@raleighnc.gov.

Thanks for a fun Lawn Party!

We had a great time at the Mordecai CAC "Fun on the Lawn" event on June 26! Thanks to everyone who attended and to all of our great volunteers and vendors. We raised nearly $700 for the MCAC community fund through our raffle! We appreciate all of the North Person Street businesses who donated items.

The Mordecai CAC has hosted a June lawn party/community picnic for 38 years! It was great to be back after missing two summers due to Covid. Community members, if you are interested in having more community events like this or helping with next summer’s party please reach out.

SAVE SEABOARD TRAIN STATION
Preservation Group

Update

Community members formed a preservation group in January to promote efforts to save the historic Seaboard Train Station building (Logan's Garden Shop), which is affected by the rezoning application.

The Planning Commission approved the Logan's rezoning on June 14. Our next step is CITY COUNCIL.

If you'd like to get involved with efforts, please email savethestation@mordecaicac.org for more info. Our group is primarily communicating via Slack. We have an announcement email list as well.  Please join https://groups.google.com/g/saveseaboard if you would to receive updates.

Volunteer with the Mordecai CAC - make your community a better place!

The Mordecai CAC is the Mordecai Community Action Coalition. We are a coalition of multiple neighborhoods working together to provide ways for citizens to share information, meet each other, and take action in our community. Neighborhoods include: Pilot Mill, Oakdale, Mordecai, East Mordecai, North Person/Blount, Cotton Mill, Capitol Park, and part of Oakwood.

CO-CHAIR: We still need a new MCAC co-chair. This person will serve a two year term and be responsible for working with a partner to plan meeting agendas and lead the direction of the CAC. If you are interested or know of a neighbor that would be good for the job, we'd love to talk to you.

Please contact Merrilee Jacobson at chair@mordecaicac.org.

Join the MCAC Leadership Team!

The MCAC Leadership team is open and welcomes any resident of the Mordecai Community. Our core group of neighbors communicates regularly to plan meetings and share ideas for citizen engagement. We'd love to have more neighbors get involved.  The leadership team communicates via a Slack Workspace.  All residents are welcome to join.

Email chair@mordecaicac.org for an invitation or click here to join!

Corner Pantry Items Needed!

Please keep our neighborhood Corner Pantry in mind for donations as you are able. It is at the corner of Glascock and Watauga Streets. We continue to welcome all to take what they need and leave what they can. The Corner Pantry has been utilized a great deal since being built, so please help us maintain inventory by dropping off non-perishable foods as you are able. Thanks!
