When we heard we’d won a spot in the Report for America program, we were excited. We could hire our spring intern, Sandra Sadek, to cover a beat that’s important to our community – growth and economic development.
But it also put us under some pressure. Report for America is a national program that provides a partial salary for a reporter – and requires the local newsroom to raise the rest from the community.
Our readers have donated several thousand dollars already, and we’re grateful for every gift. With thousands of dollars still to raise, we've set a goal of getting 15 more new donors by July 1 to hold up our end of the bargain.
