Invocation to The Fire Element
I hide in the spark of a bonfire
I tame the embers of your heart
I illuminate your way at night
I wax and wane as pale moonlight
And at Dawn I shower you with grace.
From the chariot I ride across the sky
I peer in each niche and crevice
And when I find you I will warm you
I will comfort you, and there will be joy and happiness
There will be lanterns candles and fireworks
There will be flickering lights and warming fires
There will be dancing and merry making
There will be passions kindled
For since time began, there was no ceremony without me.’

What is a dosha? That which causes fault.
A common misconception in today’s popular Ayurveda is that Doshas are some type of personality trait definitions. However, the word itself means a “fault”
Understanding your dosha predominance is understanding the proneness of your imbalances. Meaning, there are elements within that get easily aggrivated and that you must watch this during change of seasons, moon cycles and times of day.
So, even seasons have doshas. Meaning, each season brings about an imbalance to a certain element.
Summer is the imbalance of Fire element, and therefore responds to the Pitta Dosha.
What does this mean?
As you know, naturally for centuries, humans celebrate summer with vacations near bodies of water. Hence naturally, we are drawn to the element opposite the one that is being imbalanced. However, due to societal pushes and social media influences most of us are not really connected or aware of our inner workings of our being, so our eating habits, daily routine and thought patterns are not in sync with always seeking elemental balance.
Pitta Dosha governed by the Fire Element is a that which invites transformation. Such is the function of your metabolism, and organs such as the liver and kidneys, the skin, your eyes, and the part of your brain that processes and understands information.
When out Balance, the Fire element leads to Inflammation, burning sensations, anger, explosiveness and burnouts.
Are you recognizing a pattern here?
So, it is Summer. The temperature is high, and naturally your body switches its internal oven off to keep up with external temperature balance… meaning, Your Metabolism in the summer is working at 50% than in the winter for example, therefore the way you eat in summer can really make or break your digestive function.
Your body is not transforming the external environment fully if overloaded, so its key to keep the heat in check.
You also might notice your general increase in drinking liquids in the summer, and of course, eating fruits.
However, when and how you eat fruit and drink is also crucial to understanding how to maneuver your metabolism.
