1. Black churches more important to SBC than ever before

African American churches are more important to the Southern Baptist Convention than ever before, Jamie Dew told Baptist Press Monday (July 18) at the Black Church Leadership and Family Conference at Ridgecrest Conference Center.

2. IMB goes against flow of mission trends

The International Mission Board stands in stark contrast to current trends in global missions. A recent Christian Post article cited only 3 percent of mission work goes to reach the unreached, while in 2021, the IMB sought to focus 81.2 percent of missionary team efforts among unreached people groups (UPG). Additionally, 90.8 percent of all IMB teams were focused on at least one UPG, said Wilson Geisler the IMB’s director of global research.

3. Excavation of graves begins at site of colonial Black church

Archaeologists in Virginia began excavating three suspected graves at the original site of one of the nation’s oldest Black churches on Monday (July 18), commencing a monthslong effort to learn who was buried there and how they lived.

In 1963 - Hines To Sing On Baptist Hour

Jerome Hines, famed opera star, was the featured soloist on "The Baptist Hour" radio program on July 21. Hines, a bass singer for the Metropolitan Opera, recorded for most of the major recording companies in America and England.
