Mantel Stories for grades 5-8

Sign up required. We're turning writing into something fun this summer with two sessions of creative games, just for middle grade teens! If you're in grades 5-8, sign up for either session of this creative event to explore Blackstone Library & search for a selection of strange, unusual, and just plain weird hidden photos. Then, we'll play a writing game to decide the backstory of each picture. Is it a photo of a doomed romance? A dark monster, lurking just behind the trees? Or something even scarier? You decide! Whatever direction the story takes you, submit your creation to our Flotsam Creative Writing Contest while you're here & enter to win cool prizes! This program is being offered on 2 dates, choose whichever works best for you! Found Photo Prompts for grades 9-12

Sign up required. They say a picture's worth a thousand words. Don't you wish you could submit a picture instead of an essay?! This summer, we're creating art in all its forms with a series of creative games, just for high school students! We'll start with a selection of obscure photos, then use them to create a visual piece of art that combines pictures with brief writing segments (think "Two Sentence Horror Stories"). What you'll create is a shareable work of art that you can photocopy here & give out to family & friends. Flotsam Summer Writing Contest: for all ages!

All summer long | Friday, July 1 - Friday, August 26 @ 5 PM

Drop-in event. Submit your own short stories, poems, or  visual art! Tell us a story. Any story! There’s an ocean of possibilities to explore in this creative contest! The only rule is that your submissions must be your own original creations. Work can be submitted by anyone of any age. Please include your name, contact info. & age, so we can put your entry in the correct age category. You can submit your work at the Youth Services Desk or enter online here! Enter as many times as you'd like, but each entry must be accompanied by your own original work. Prizes include gift cards to Ashley's Ice Cream, Fired Up, & more! Sponsored by the Friends of the Blackstone Memorial Library
