It will be a night of delights when the City Centre comes alive for its first City Heart Fridays event – this Friday, July 22.
Music, dancing, eating, drinking, shopping and painting – take your pick – there’ll be something for everyone.
This Friday is an extra-special celebration for M’Lady’s, who are celebrating 40 years of business in the city.
City Heart Fridays is supported by council’s Activate My Place Grants program.

Free parking extended until end of July
The development of council’s Mackay Parking app has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.
As a result, parking in Mackay’s four off-street paid car parks will be free until the end of July.
Council will inform the community when the app is available to download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store via its Facebook page.

Delays expected with Mobile Library rollout
Council’s new Mobile Library will not be hitting the road as soon as first expected.
After a period of testing by the Mobile Library team, the vehicle is headed back to Brisbane for some enhancements and customisations to suit local operating requirements.
As a result, the Mobile Library is not expected to begin servicing our region until late September.
The Pop-up Library will visit some Mobile Library stops to help service the community in the meantime.

Have your say on the future of Sarina Beach
Residents are being invited to help shape the future of Sarina Beach!
Council is seeking feedback on the draft Local Coastal Plan (LCP) for Sarina Beach, which has been developed in partnership with Reef Catchments. This plan builds on the priorities and actions identified in the Sarina Beach Management Guidelines for Coastal Zones developed by Sarina Shire Council in 2006.
Residents are encouraged to learn more about the plan and provide their feedback at one of three community drop-in sessions including:
- Session 1: Sunday, July 24, 9am to 11am at Sarina Beach Surf Club, Sarina.
- Session 2: Tuesday, July 26, 4pm to 5pm at Owen Jenkins Park, Sarina.
- Session 3: Saturday and Sunday, July 30 to 31, at Sarina Show, Sarina.
Council’s project team will joined by staff from the Mackay Natural Environment Centre (MNEC) at the first session on Sunday, July 24, who will be running their Free Native Plant Program where ratepayers can collect four free plants.
If you would like to request a specific plant, email nursery@mackay.qld.gov.au by 9am on Friday, July 22.

East Point vehicle access maintained
Vehicle access to East Point will be maintained even though a section of the existing track will close for environmental and safety reasons.
Council, working proactively with the developer of the Dunes Estate development, has agreed on a solution to maintain vehicle access to the popular recreation and fishing area.
An area immediately adjacent to the first stage of the development will be closed to vehicular traffic to allow the developer to revegetate the foreshore reserve.
Access to East Point will be maintained in the first instance via a track off Dunes Boulevard, past the first stage, which will link up with the existing track to East Point.

Vegetation vandals target Hay Point
Five trees have been poisoned at Hay Point.
Council officers discovered the trees on the foreshore area in McCarthy Street in April.
The soil sample tested positive for Metsulfuron methyl – the same herbicide that was used in 2020 to kill a number of trees in this area.
As a result, council will be replanting 15 plants in place of the five that have been destroyed.
The large billboard sign that was installed in this area in 2020 will also remain in place for a further five years – until 2027.
