Dear friends / Queridos Amigos

Hope you are well.
It is now the hottest summer on record ever!
and I hope your house is not on fire!
I am surprised that with all the signs we are receiving
such as - a pandemic, floods, droughts, fires
the world continues its 'business as usual'!?
YES?!!
Business as usual?!?!?!?
It just can't be
as it will only get worse
I mean
you know what I mean
we just don't want to look it in the eyes
but it is clearly already here:(
I don't want to sound like a boring preacher
but
if everyday we try to do one or two actions for the planet
actually for ourselves on the planet
being aware of what we buy, what we eat!, how we travel around
how much we pollute
Search for ways to sensitize our environment
at least something...
?
There are many people sharing their micro-actions and knowledge
on the social medias
so I am trying to learn something everyday
but
changing our habits is a biggy for us Humans :(
In my quest for this, we have traveled to Bristol - The Cube microplex
and to Pistoia - Galeria MeVannucci
with Our Skin/ Pela nossa Pele supported by DGARTERS
the Portuguese cultural ministry.
The experiences were SO heartwarming
and beautifully receptive

So excited to be teaching Butoh in the beautiful Alentejo, on the cusp of the Algarve
It's gonna be hot but we are going to dance it off into the empty body as a vessel.

Butoh is an avant-garde dance of transformation created at the end of the 50 in Japan. Karavan is sharing over 20 years of experience having worked with the founding members of Butoh Dance as well as 2nd and 3rd generation in Japan and Europe. Butoh is not a technique but a method and philosophy. The main elements that will be explored in the workshop are metamorphoses, dance through imagery, presence, awareness, and the tension between opposites. The aim is to free the body from its mundane preconceived set of gestures and movements and thus allowing us to access a deeper and more authentic essence of movement and archetypal expression. Questioning how Butoh can be translated into a European Body and why is Butoh not just relevant but extremely vital nowadays.

Butoh é uma dança de vanguarda, uma filosofia e um método que foi criado no Japão, no final dos anos 50, por Tatsumi Hijikata e Kazuo Ohno. Não se trata de uma técnica, mas de um método e uma abordagem da dança que nasce dentro de nós e nos conecta à nossa essência, natureza, universo e aos ciclos da vida e da morte.
Yael Karavan tem mais de 20 anos de experiência, durante os quais teve a oportunidade de trabalhar com os fundadores do Butoh no Japão: Kazuo Ohno e Motofuji San - esposa de Tatsumi Hijikata - bem como com Tadashi Endo e o MAMU dance theatre, Yumiko Yoshioka e Ten-Pen-Chi, Sankai Juku, Atsushi Takenuchi, Minako Seki, Carlota Ikeda, Yuko Kawamoto, Akira Kasai, Natsu Nakajuma entre outros.
Os principais elementos que serão trabalhados na oficina são: O mistério do espaço vazio, espaço entre - Espaço 'MA' O objetivo é libertar o corpo “domesticado” do conjunto de gestos e movimentos preconcebidos permitindo o acesso à profunda e autêntica essência do movimento.

BIOGRAFIA
Premiada performer, dançarina e diretora artistica da Karavan Ensemble, Yael Karavan nasceu em Israel e cresceu em Florença, em Paris e em Londres. Pesquisando a Dança, atravessou a Europa, a Rússia, o Brasil e o Japão buscando por uma linguagem de expressão física que ligasse o Oriente e o Ocidente, a Dança e o Teatro. Estudou e trabalhou com mestres do Butoh, como Kazuo Ohno, Tadashi Endo, Carlotta Ikeda, Yumiko Yoshioka, Akiko Motofuji, Ko Morobushi, Katsura Kan, Yuko Kaseki, Yuko Kawamoto, entre outros. “Arranque” é início ou fim. Início de movimento, de vida, de espaço. Ou extracção de corpo, afecto, futuro. Perdas físicas, concretas e tangíveis, que dão lugar a um imaginário de infinitas possibilidades. Um ciclo, também ele, infinito.
Como co-existir com o que acaba de desaparecer, des-pertencer, desligar-se, inexistir? Como relacionar-nos com o que está em vias de se extinguir, com o que nos é arrancado? Arranque é também uma ordem, em forma de fé. Podemos juntos dar novos significados ao vazio?
