Olive cuts 450 staff as CEO cites 'missteps' with fast growth, lack of focus

 
  • Olive Announced this week it would be laying off 450 employees as CEO Sean Lane cited tough economic conditions and "missteps" in the company's strategy.
     
  • The company is shifting its strategy and will focus on expanding its customer base.
     
  • Lane and his team first deployed Olive in 2017, and a year ago, the company raked in $400M in new capital. Since March 2020, the startup has raised $832M. 
     
  • Going forward, Olive plans to focus on end-to-end processes that enable payer-provider connectivity.

Tech CEO discusses state's chance to remake itself with tech investment

  • The number of tech jobs in Ohio now exceeds 250,000. 
     
  • OhioX President and CEO Chris Berry joined Mike Kallmeyer to talk about the work being done to turn Ohio into a technology hub.
     
  • Berry is excited about Ohio's tech opportunity as it's in areas the state has excelled in for many years, like manufacturing and insurance. Berry said Ohio has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to remake itself.

  • Columbus Police are focused on increasing safety for families through technology.
     
  • Solar-powered, mobile security cameras have been placed at designated parks throughout the city based on the history of violence and calls for service.
     
  • Temporary lights, as well as security cameras, were added, and later in the year, permanent security cameras will be installed.
     
     
  • More than two dozen security cameras are now stationed inside city parks around Columbus, after a string of shootings since April that left four people dead

Black Tech Week highlights Black-owned tech companies across the U.S.

  • Cincinnati is hosting the Black Tech Week Conference for the first time.
     
  • It's highlighting more than 50 Black-owned tech companies across the country.
     
  • Serial entrepreneur Dawn Dickson was one speaker at the conference. She was the first female CEO to raise and secure token offering over $1 million
     
  • Serena Williams is the keynote speaker.
