SUMMER 2022

Susan’s Sentiments

OLHSA has had a busy summer season providing services that help those who are
most in need in the communities we serve.

I am proud of our team and the accomplishments our programs continue to achieve. The COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) program was able to provide over $13M to those affected by COVID-19 in Pontiac. OLHSA’s Venture, Inc. has had a productive last few months helping provide low-income community members with housing and helping to beautify our communities. OLHSA’s Head Start program will be ramping up again soon to help children prepare for their futures filled with learning. Our successes wouldn’t be possible without all of our community partners and volunteers who continue to assist us with helping those in need.

OLHSA also has its 4th Annual Golf Fore Change coming up on August 26th at Fountains Golf in Clarkston. The event will benefit energy services provided by OLHSA to families in Oakland County. We hope to see you there! Find more information on how to attend or become a sponsor here.

In case you missed it, OLHSA released our 2021 Annual Report. You can view it here. I look forward to more successes within the agency and continuing our efforts to serve our communities.

With gratitude,

Program Highlights

Venture, Inc.

Venture, Inc., a housing subsidiary of OLHSA, has been working to beautify communities and help community members achieve homeownership. Recently, Venture, Inc. through MSHDA NEP Funding, was able to help four homeowners with free exterior home repairs including porch replacements and gutters.

In the GM Modern Housing (GMMH) neighborhood, Venture teamed up with the GMMH Neighborhood Association and homeowners to make a community difference. They were able to assist seven homeowners, complete the construction of the Oakland Park pavilion, and fabricate and install four neighborhood signs. OLHSA received more than $150,000 in funding from the state, financial institutions, and other nonprofit organizations to fund these projects in the GMMH Neighborhood.

Venture, Inc. has also recently sold a new construction home within the Perry Park Subdivision in Pontiac. In collaboration with Oakland County, Venture, Inc. has been able to build and sell five homes within the Perry Park Subdivision. In addition, Venture, Inc. collaborated with Oakland Schools to give students participating in the Residential Construction Trades Program the opportunity to build three of these homes. Not only has Venture, Inc. provided affordable housing units for five families in the Perry Park Subdivision, but also contributed to the future economy of the community by providing training opportunities for youth who will soon be independent adults who also have the ability to contribute to the community.

Success Stories

CERA - COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance

OLHSA was fortunate to be able to offer COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) in Oakland and Livingston Counties.

"OLHSA just passed the $13M mark in financial assistance to Pontiac community members that have been impacted by COVID-19. It has been a tremendous amount of work to award this in 15 months and I am very proud of the OLHSA team," says Nancy Isken, CERA Services Program Manager.

CERA Client Experience:

How has COVID impacted you and/or your household? "Loss of jobs for my wife and a huge strain on our income, she could not return to work for about a month. We all caught COVID in our household. Resulted in taking time off work to care for Family Members."

What would you like for us to know about your experience? “First, me and my family are truly grateful for all help that was given to us. Nothing negative at all, there was a bit of a wait but we understand there were a lot of applications.”
