The Back Porch
A Note from our Pastors...
Dear LFPPC Church Family,

This week has been a great week in the life of our congregation! Firstly, our staff and many volunteers have been working round the clock to put together a wonderful "Wakefest" for our youth this week. Additionally, our Session approved a sustainable and healthy budget for 2022-2023. This good work between Session, our staff, and our Finance Committee has so many wonderful impacts---the ability to continue Jazz Vespers next year, to hire a permanent Director of Worship, to invest generously into our children, youth, and family programs and so much more. We look forward to sharing this good work in detail more at our annual meeting in September.

In the meantime, we continue to get our house in order to ready a healthy foundation for your next long-term pastor. I will be connecting with our Presbytery leadership this summer to update on them on our progress and seek permission to switch gears and look to beginning the first steps of our Pastor Nominating Process.

Thank you all for being so faithful and persevering through a time of transition. God has been good to us and we have vital ministry to do in the months and years ahead.

Blessings,
Pastor Laura
Worship
Sermon Series
We are continuing in our "Back to Basics" summer sermon series as we take a look at the essentials of faith from the reformed tradition. This week, Pastor Laura will be preaching on the topic of worship. We will also be led in song by our Seasonal Singers while our staff are away supporting "Wakefest".
Join us for an All-Church BBQ directly after worship on Sunday, August 7th. We need volunteers for set-up, clean-up, and for bringing potluck style side-dishes and desserts. There is a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center or you can email Pastor Laura directly if you are able to help. Invite your friends and we will see you there!
Fall Preview
Good Things Are Coming This Fall! Stay Tuned For...
  • The return of Sunday Morning Adult Education led by a FABULOUS team of volunteers
  • Godly Play---an outstanding montessori-based formation program for young kids aged 4 to 7.
  • A new sermon series based on Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown. You can prepare by watching her special on HBO. We are pouring our hearts into this one--no pun intended.
  • The return of Jazz Vespers! Stay tuned...
Volunteers Wanted
  • Musicians-- Particularly those with piano or guitar experience though other instruments welcome. See Jaime Henning for more information.
  • Hospitality-- Seeking extra hands for serving coffee or assisting with the occasional fellowship event such as our upcoming BBQ.
  • Sound-- We always need more volunteers to be trained to help with Sunday worship sound as well as the occasional funeral or special event.
  • All-Church Summer BBQ 8/7-- We need a few hands to help pull off our summer BBQ after worship. Set up? Clean up? Work a grill? Let Pastor Laura know. Thanks!
  • **NEW**-Funeral Team- We are looking for folks who are willing to be on an email list of potential volunteers we can reach out to when a funeral arises to help with sound, a/v, cookie makers, and hospitality. We know you can't help every time but it would help our pastors if there is a go-to team of people to reach out to when the time arises.
  • **NEW**-Voicemail Project--While we are in transition, we would appreciate a volunteer who would come in and help us update our voicemail greetings in the office. We have the instructions and need someone who can dedicate an hour or so to helping us update a few things. Let Pastor Laura know if you would be willing to give it a try.
Programs + Events
Former member Ann Marie Stewart (Roetcisoender), daughter of Bill and Ruth, is now a published author. She would love to invite you to her book tour. She has a few LFPPC stories she will lift up at her Northgate appearance.

Love Your Neighbor
Pantry in the Park
Our little free pantry on Brookside Blvd is getting some action! Please remember our community pantry on your grocery trips and help us keep it stocked with healthy, shelf-stable foods. Your generosity blesses our neighborhood!

Pepitas Preschool
Pepitas Bilingual Preschool is growing and will be welcoming 80 students next year. Please be in prayer for their ministry as they start preparations in August. For more information about the school, visit www.pepitaspreschool.com
Attention Gardeners!
We are blessed with many avid gardeners in our congregation. Let's share from the abundance of our summer vegetable gardens. Leave your contribution at the Welcome Center or take freely what looks yummy to you. Enjoy!
Covid19 Guidance
Masking
Masks are optional but encouraged in our building with the exception of our Pepitas Preschool space where they are required. A mask-only and distanced worship space is available in fellowship hall where the worship service is available on the screen for those who desire a higher-precaution worship space. Note: Following worship un-masked congregants from the Sanctuary may come downstairs for coffee and fellowship.

Summer Surge
Please monitor your symptoms and join us online if you are sick or have been exposed. If traveling this summer, consider letting a few days pass before you re-enter our campus to help reduce potential exposure to our staff and volunteers. **We have had a significant uptick of Covid19 positive congregation members in the last few weeks so please remain vigilant**
