San Carlos Weather Forecast


We'll have isolated thunderstorms with a 30% chance of rain Wednesday through Thursday morning, then the rest of the week will be partly cloudy. The daytime high will be between 32 - 34 C (91 - 94 F). The night time temperatures will be 26 - 27 C (80 - 81 F). There's a small chance of rain all week. Daytime humidity will be above 50% all week and night time and early morning humidity will be over 70%.

Tropical Storm Frank is far south and is forecast to move west and pose no threat to us.

We'll be saying goodbye to Soggy Peso next Sunday, July 31st anytime from 11:00am to 10:00pm.

Many of our local bands will be playing from 2:00pm to 10:00pm --- after all, they all started at Soggy moons ago!

Eric Holland, Tony & Mario, Laurita and Cadenza, Assterisko, Dany Moreno and Utopia, Armando and Son Desierto, Gilberto and Norma from the Luna Band and Bad Rumors. Unfortunately, Omar can't make it but he will be with us in spirit.

Cinemex, the movie theater in Guaymas shows movies in Spanish and oftentimes in English.

Kayak Dorado Regatta, July 30 & 31


On Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, July 31, take part in the first-ever Kayak Dorado Regatta, a kayak fishing tournament being held in Guaymas, from the beach in Miramar.

The fee to enter is 350 pesos..

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three anglers.

On Saturday, registration is at 2:00pm.

On Sunday, the tournament is from 7:00am - noon.

75th International Billfish Tournament, August 5 - 7


The 75th International Billfish Tournament takes place in San Carlos from August 5 - 7.

Registration starts at 5:00pm on Friday, August 5 at the Yacht Club or register online. Enjoy a welcome cocktail at 6:00pm. The registration fee is $250 USD.

The event is hosted and sponsored by Ernesto Zaragoza Charity Foundation. Funds raised from the tournament help local charities in their endeavors.

The tournament is conducted under International Game Fish Association rules (read the rules). It is Catch & Release fishing for all marlin and sailfish.

Fishing Report
Well I'll have to be honest with you that I'm writing this report from 10,000' in Utah. I'll be getting my freshwater fix in for the next month, but my captain and boat have a good trickling of trips planned by people willing to brave the heat, or don't know better. It really has been nice, with the water still warming up from winter, plenty of overcast relatively calm days, and western dry winds. We even had it blowing from the north after one major swath of monsoons came through. Just always be prepared with lots of water, hats, and a good attitude. The best fishing still seems to be in close, which helps.
  
The Dorado are a respectable size of small, with a few going 10 - 20 pounds. There are lots of sailfish in areas, and a decent number of marlin. There are some Sierra in close and the occasional Bonita.
  
I really haven't heard of anyone going offshore. It will be interesting to see if the pattern of the last few months repeats itself. Traditionally the better fishing mid-summer is farther out, but not this year. The bite may show outside the Reef again, especially if the bait is present. 
  
There could finally be some seaweed patches attracting fish. It seems like the water needs to be in the upper 80's for the bait to need the shade of any available patches. I've seen the surface show 93 on Terrafin on some sunny calm days. Saying that, a friend circled a very large swordfish for twenty minutes, which is a cold-water species. So maybe think cool thoughts down there, ... while I'm struggling to stay warm and dry (and not a sweat through my shirt kind-of dry finally).

SBPA Matching Grant until August 1


A new SBPA record for surgeries, a whopping 429, was set this past weekend.

We must keep going, so please consider a donation now during our $25,000 Matching Grant Campaign that ends on August 1st.

We are still $9,000 short of the goal.

One day there won't be many more dogs or cats for surgery, but while there are, we MUST keep working hard.

Castaway Kids Thrift Store: The Castaway Kids Thrift Store is open Saturdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Our Student Coordinator, Kristian Vizcaino, is also in the office at the Castaway Kids Education and Donation Center every Wednesday and Thursday between 9:00am and 3:00pm. We also continue to expand the items that we are featuring on the shopping page on our website.

Church:

San Carlos Community Church: Public worship services on Sundays at 9:00am.

San Carlos Borromeo Mass schedule: daily at 5:00pm in Spanish; Sunday at 8:00am in English and 9:00am, 11:30am and 5:00pm in Spanish and a Spanish Catholic mass at 9:00am, at our Lady Lourdes in the desert. Also, there is bilingual rosary at 9:30am on Mondays in the main church.
