Registration for the 5th annual AZT in a Day is open!

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8TH, 2022

AZT in a Day is a coordinated effort to complete the entire 800-mile Arizona National Scenic Trail (AZT) in just 24 hours.

We need your help to make it happen!

This challenge also raises awareness to support trail construction and maintenance; youth programs that empower the next generation of stewards; veteran outreach and stewardship; and our wildlife monitoring program. Together, we can help protect and maintain the 800-mile gem that is the Arizona Trail.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Explore section options by using the map or the spreadsheet on our registration page. There are over 100 sections of trail to choose from. Overnight camping and vehicle requirements have been listed where applicable; however, most section options are from road to road.

Register for a section (or two!) and SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, October 8th, 2022. You're now a part of a statewide team and we need you!

Get ready to hike, run, ride and roll! Participants must be completely self-prepared and self-supported, so do your homework. Go here for answers to Frequently Asked Questions, or email karrie@aztrail.org if you're curious about something.

Support the Trail! Please use the fundraising page you receive when you register as a way to share your love of the trail and give back to the ATA. All funds generated from AZT in a Day will support our robust programming. Click here to learn more about what we do and where your donation goes.

NEW Limited Edition Hat

We are excited to offer a new limited edition hat celebrating the Arizona Trail. This patriotic hat features a red and white AZT logo against a blue front panel. Its sandy-colored full mesh sides will help keep your noggin cool during the heat of the day. Fans of this hat will agree that the AZT is one of the best trails in America!

Cap has an unstructured crown, a fully curved visor, and an open back snap closure. Its red brim and blue front panel feature a weathered-already-been-on-the-trail look.

Check out the full features of this hat on our store page, and order yours for $29 while they last.

We Came, We Sawed, We Conquered

The section of the AZT on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is lush and densely forested - and so it is never surprising that it is prone to high numbers of deadfall once the snow melts off in spring. This year, we had reports of more than 68 trees down across the 12 miles of Passage 39.

On July 16th, a team of 16 ATA volunteers and staff joined the National Park Service Trail Crew on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for a weekend sawyering to clear obstacles from the corridor. Using one and two-man crosscut saws (many of which are antiques), teams worked for two days and ultimately removed more than 100 trees, cleared out new growth aspens and opened the trail for hikers, bikers and equestrians. The opportunity to work directly with the NPS trail crew was particularly unusual - swapping trail stories and exchanging techniques ensured that there was something new to learn for even the most seasoned trail dog.

There are many ways to give back on the AZT. If you’d like to learn more about what it takes to get involved with events like this, visit aztrail.org/get-involved and check out our list of upcoming opportunities.
