Happy August, Junior Leaguers!

You may be asking yourself, where has the summer gone? I know I am! Before you know it, we will be gathering together for our first meeting of the year on September 13 at the South Burlington Public Library (and Zoom) from 5:30-7 pm, with a social to follow.

If you have not yet signed up for one of our upcoming recruitment events, I encourage you to do so. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together and share with our community who we are and what we do. If you are not able to attend a recruitment event, that is okay. However, we do ask that you spread the word about these events and the work we are doing to make Vermont a better place so we can continue to grow and make positive, lasting change. If you know of anyone who would be interested in joining the JLCV, please be in touch with Caitlin Hutchins, our fearless recruitment leader, so she can reach out to them. With your help, I hope we will be welcoming many new members to serve, lead, and laugh alongside us!

An important part of being a Junior Leaguer is telling our story. Once the league year returns in full swing, we will have a new tool to use – an updated, more modern, and more powerful mission statement. At the AJLI Annual Conference earlier this summer, the following was adopted:

“The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. is an organization of women whose Mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.”

The JLCV will be working through its Governance and Communications Committees to formally incorporate this mission statement during the fall.

Finally, the Board is hard at work filling out the fall calendar. We are excited to be able to offer multiple events every month for members to come together, in addition to membership meetings, for both social and service opportunities. We are also committed to offering remote options throughout the league year, so you will be able to choose the format that works for you. We’ve heard from league members how important this is, and how much you’ve missed the ability to interact with other members over the past few years. We couldn’t agree more, and we hope you will amplify our enthusiasm for engagement in the year ahead!

Yours in Volunteering,

The Member Commitments have slightly changed this year. Related to membership, members are now committed to attending one recruitment event. In lieu of attending a recruitment event, you can provide the recruitment committee with names and emails of two potential new members for outreach. UPCOMING FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES
Throughout the year, the FinFun team will be reaching out with an array of opportunities to support, promote, and raise funds for the Junior League and the Diaper Bank in unique and fun ways! Below are a few of our ongoing and upcoming fundraising opportunities to look forward too!

Amazon Smile
Amazon Smile is a website operated by Amazon that lets you enjoy the same shopping experience as Amazon.com, but with a benefit to the Junior League. Amazon Smile will donate 0.5% of qualifying purchases to the League when you shop smile.Amazon.com and select JLCV as your charity of choice. If you haven't yet registered, please take a moment to visit JLCV's page at https://smile.amazon.com/ch/03-0317619. Tell your family and friends!

#GivingTuesday
JLCV has participated in Giving Tuesday for the last two years, and it has been quite a success, raising over $10,000 for JLCV each year! This has been an amazing opportunity for JLCV to highlight the wonderful work of the Diaper Bank and our other volunteer activities. We are planning to bring back this amazing fundraising effort this year. Planning and organization of this event will start early in the fall. If you are interested in taking on a more active role for this fundraiser or have ideas to reach new donors this year, please reach out to Jessie or Krystal at treasurer@jlcv.org

Thank you,

DIAPER BANK UPDATE
Operations continue and we will cross 500,000 diapers distributed this year with our August 2nd distribution. We are also rapidly approaching the mark of having distributed 2 million diapers -- pretty incredible! A huge thank you to Cathy Foutz who received two diaper deliveries this month -- we appreciate you so much! Work with the diaper bank consultants continues and we hope to hold some focus groups for partners and families in the next month as we continue to work towards a solution. Dates will be set soon for the rest of the year so stay tuned to sign up for repackagings and distributions. If anyone has any preemie diapers laying around or wouldn't mind purchasing a package or two we are low on that size. Thanks all!
Thank you,
