An open door to the Amazon
What an amazing trip into the Amazon Jungle. Thank you all so much for praying for us, and praise God for such a fruitful trip!
We worked in schools, we built roofs, we did VBS, we taught services, we worshipped together and we trained leaders. It was such a blessing, and there is so much more that we can do!
I got to teach about 12 hours of the inductive Bible Study to church leaders from different communities, and I had some amazing conversations with Pastor Alfredo who is from the indigenous tribe and is the leader of his people.
His father was the first of his people to bring the gospel to the Aents or Awajun community. He is the pastor, community leader and chief of his people. He has been opposed for years by many for carnal reasons, but spent 3 years studying in order to teach his people good doctrine from the Bible.
He has already trained and sent several leaders, but they need help with Bible study and training. They also don’t have the whole Bible in their language yet.
He told me there isn't much child abandonment, or addiction, or prostitution among his people because he fights for them. He teaches them. He loves them. He is the pastor, the chief, the doctor, and much more. He told me he needs people who love Jesus to help his community, to teach them the Word, and most of all: to help train and send indigenous missionaries to fulfill the great commission.
Our heart is to plant Calvary Moyobamba about 1.5 hours from his community in the jungle city, and then come alongside Alfredo in teaching and training his people. We want to help Alfredo establish a training center for the tribes, and continue to teach and train with him. Very exciting!
He is coming to our missions conference in November, and I will visit him 1-2 more times this year.
He also offered to translate the Inductive Bible Study Manual into his native tongue, and he says he should have the IBS manual ready in his language within 2 months. That is going to be an incredible tool for teaching and training the tribes of the Amazon!
Next year I am going to go on a 3 day trek into the Amazon with him to teach and reach some of the tribes that are unreached or barely reached. He said it will be several boat rides and we have to hike or climb a waterfall... I can't wait!
There are more stories to tell, but this is an amazing man of God. We connected and talked for hours. We want to send one of our graduates and a team to plant the church and be our outpost there.
Please enjoy this video with Alfredo and I below, and be praying for wisdom and discernment for the next steps.
