Vacation Bible School is coming to a close across Bradley County with the end of July and the anticipation of school starting back in August. Across the board, when asked about this year's VBS, many Directors and participants stated that this year's VBS felt sweeter, more family-oriented, and overall, of a great quality that has been missing since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. Families and children were happier, and though in some places, attendance was down, the Spirit of the Lord really showed up, no matter the curriculum or location.

At the reports we have right now, several hundred dollars were raised for community organizations and outreaches, and there were over 25 decisions to receive Christ as Lord and Savior.

This is a time of rejoicing with the lives changed and impacted across our community. Thank you to everyone who participated in, volunteered for, and served with Vacation Bible School this year.

In Memorium
The Reverend Dr. Wallace "Wally" Alden Varnell passed away on July 14, 2022. Pastor Wally served in many ministerial roles over the decades, and he put his heart and soul into every endeavor. one of his joys was playing guitar, making him a staple of the Cowboy Gospel Jubilee every Friday night since 2010. he was the founding and current pastor of the Cleveland Cowboy Church, and he is survived by four children, eleven grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. His loss is felt by the community he loved and people he served. We grieve his death but rejoice that, after a life spent in service to the kingdom, Pastor Wally has gone home.

Poochie Johnson: His Journey with Ocoee Outreach
Robert "Poochie" Johnson has been volunteering with Ocoee Outreach for many years. He has been a reliable runner, friend, and encouragement, and this year, Ocoee Outreach was able to give back for all the years of service to his fellow man, his community, and his God. Karen Johnson, Poochie's wife, has recently had a series of health concerns and hospitalizations. When it came time to bring her home, Poochie was unable to do so, because their home had no wheelchair accessible entrance.

A team from Mt. Pisgah, South Carolina stepped up and built a ramp in miraculous timing so that Poochie and Karen could be home, together. Mrs. Johnson was able to come home. This is just a small thank you to Poochie and Karen for their years of dedication, and it was our honor to be able to assist them in their time of need. The Lord has provided amazingly for His children this year, and we are already praying that next year will be a success and that Poochie and Karen can rejoin us as we minister to the community.
Phil Mitchell, Weakley Baptist Association: Interview
Ocoee Outreach is an important program that community members, CrossNet employees, and volunteers look forward to every year. Blessing the community for over two decades through this ministry is a service we love and a testimony to the love and hard work of God and His people. Many of the groups who come serve with us have come for many years, and some groups are just beginning their journey with Ocoee Outreach.

Dr. Phil Mitchell, the Director of Missions at Weakley Baptist Association in Dresden, Tennessee, has brought groups two years in a row, because, frankly, there is something special about Cleveland, Tennessee. “I think it would be a nice place to live,” he said, in an interview on Thursday. As a native Clevelander, I could not agree more. Dr. Mitchell expounded upon that sentiment, though, as he related that the community made their decision to come to Cleveland again that much easier. As they would go out into communities and neighborhoods, as well as to restaurants and churches, people would thank them for what they were doing for the people in our area. The attitude of the people in our area stood out to him, as well as the passion in the hearts of our leaders. “The dedication of the people running the program” is one of the reasons he chose to bring a group back, and some of the members of this year’s party were also a part of last year’s group.

Dr. Mitchell's group is not the only one who served this year and had many stories to share regarding our community and the people in it. This year, several people were led to Christ by teams who were working on neighboring houses. The Lord is working in our community, and the teams this year have been his hands and feet. We are so grateful to our God who has allowed us to minister to the people of Cleveland, who we love.

Please pray for our teams and leaders as they finish out the 2022 Ocoee Outreach season this week.
Ocoee Outreach: Foundation House Ministries
At Ocoee Outreach, much of our ministry focuses on the homes of Cleveland residents and those in the surrounding areas. We have been incredibly fortunate this year, and God has blessed our efforts. This year, we got to work on Foundation House Ministries for something a little different. Foundation House Ministries focuses on coming alongside mothers and their children who are in crisis, be it homelessness, abuse, court cases, or a litany of other reasons.

An Ocoee Outreach group from Sheppards, Virginia did a lot of cleanup projects for them, including pressure-washing, rebuilding steps, weeding, mowing the lawn, weed eating, and painting porches, rails, and sheds around the property.
