July 21, 2022                                                                      Nr. of recipients: 3423

Dear Subscriber,

Once again we bring you our monthly roundup of the news from the ecosystem services community. We want to remind you that the deadline for the ESP Europe conference abstract submission is coming close - if you plan to present your work, please submit your abstract before 31 July 2022.

Happy reading!

Highlight of the month: IPBES9 plenary

Important IPBES assessments launched

The 9th IPBES Plenary took place at the start of July. The event saw the launch of two highly anticipated expert reports - the Values and Valuation of Nature assessment and the Sustainable Use of Wild Species assessment. The summaries for policy makers of both assessments were also approved.

ESP and YESS at the IPBES9 plenary

During the plenary members of the ESP delegation met with members of the YESS delegation and discussed the future cooperation of our networks, in particular the plan to get a mentoring scheme launched. An online meeting to operationalise the plan will be held soon; interested participants should contact the YESS team.

News from our regional chapters and national networks

Turkey

The first collaborative work as ESP National Network of Turkey is out: a national scale review of Ecosystem Services studies conducted in Turkey. We have reviewed circa 250 papers, and reports spanning from scientific journals to grey literature in order to analyse the state of the ES studies so far, thus filling a big knowledge gap in Turkey. Many thanks to our colleagues in ESP Turkey, friends, and colleagues reviewing and commenting on the publication. Read more.

One more article from our members in Turkey was published recently: Spatial assessment of ecosystem services provisioning changes in a forest-dominated protected area in NE Turkey. Read more.
