1. Offering Support for the CIHR Transforming Health  with INtegrated Care (THINC) Implementation Science Teams Competition

The Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit is available to provide various consultations and supports for the upcoming CIHR THINC Implementation Science Teams Opportunity (see item 9 below in this newsletter for grant details). 2. Opportunity to Evaluate Your Initiative through the University of Alberta
Deadline to Submit a Case Study: August 19, 2022 | 5:00 pm MT


Do you have an initiative you would like to evaluate? University of Alberta students in the School of Public Health taking graduate-level program evaluation courses this Fall 2022 semester are looking for community partners who would like help creating an evaluation framework. Students and community stakeholders will work together to develop a tailored evaluation framework for their initiative.

3. Implementation Support Specialist Certificate Program
Level 1 available now, Level 2 available on a rolling basis throughout 2023-25.

The Center for Implementation’s Implementation Support Specialist Certificate Program is for professionals and students who want to up-skill and/or be able to highlight their skills and competencies in applying implementation science in practice. The program offers two levels of certification: The Level 1 Implementation Support Specialist certification which covers the foundations of implementation and the Level 2 Implementation Support Specialist certification (available on a rolling basis throughout 2023-2025) covers special topics in depth, focusing on the relational dynamics of implementation such as trust, power, engagement, and motivation. Professionals can choose to progress to a Level 2 Implementation Support Specialist certification after obtaining the Level 1 certification. (This is similar to the process of green belts and black belts in quality improvement.)

4. Walking with the Arthritis Community on the Path Forward towards Truth and Reconciliation
July 22, 2022 | 2:30 pm MT

In 2021, Dr. Terri-Lynn Fox and Cheryl Koehn came together as Indigenous Scholar, settler/colonial and persons living with rheumatoid arthritis to walk together on a path forward towards Truth and Reconciliation. Speakers will discuss how an Indigenous-led initiative, the Arthritis Learning Circle, has developed into lead several community-driven research projects. The webinar will also touch on deliberate and meaningful design that upholds reciprocity, accountability, and transparency throughout different phases of research.

6. Save the Date: The Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science Annual Meeting
October 12-13, 2022 | 9:00 am - 3:00 pm MT


The Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science annual meeting will be held virtually from October 12-13, 2022. The meeting will focus on the evolution of efforts to enhance equity; mentoring, training, and diversifying the workforce; and multi-sectoral approach and collaboration. The event will feature a variety of presentations and discussion sessions, as well as action group breakouts to encourage engagement and discussion.

7. Masterclass in Implementation Science in Healthcare
Registration Deadline: September 30, 2022


The course offers an overview of the field of implementation science, from typical research questions to strategies for the inclusion of stakeholders to methods for evaluating outcomes. The second part of the masterclass consists of workshops for all those working on an implementation project who would appreciate input from experts. The Masterclass is taught in English and the faculty consists of international experts in the field, including Dr. Per Neilson.

8. Advancing Sustainability Research in Implementation Science

9. Catalyst Grant: Policy Research for Health System Transformation
Application Deadline: October 4, 2022


This funding opportunity supports Policy Research for Health System Transformation grants, including retrospective policy evaluations or prospective policy development/implementation, that generate evidence to inform macro-level policies to support high-performing health care and public health systems in Canada with the aim of advancing the Quadruple Aim – improved population health outcomes, better patient and provider experience, and increased value – and health equity (sometimes referred to as the Quintuple Aim). In addition, it will provide support for a supplemental knowledge mobilization synthesis project to coordinate and lead a synthesis of the policy research approaches used by the policy research teams, of the policy issues and of their findings/options, to support learning across all teams.

10. Transforming Health with Integrated Care - Implementation Science Teams Grants

families/carers, service providers, researchers, policymakers, and community organizations to improve youth mental health through improving services and leading ground breaking research. The Implementation Specialist/Coordinator will support the implementation of an evidence-based supported employment and education program for youth who seek services at select ACCESS Open Minds sites. The Implementation Specialist/Coordinator will support these sites as they implement the employment and education program through the lenses of implementation science, knowledge exchange, evaluation, coaching, and health equity.
