Hi Friends,

I think I should write a book on grief - given the rate things are going! Here are a few things I have learned thus far. I hope this helps you in some way. Perhaps you could add to the list and what has helped you or hasn't. Please reach out - I would love to hear from you.

THINGS I HAVE LEARNED ABOUT GRIEF

 There is grief from loving people that don’t love you back and then there is the grief from losing people that loved you and were able to receive yours.

1. Unrequited love is a death of an old version of yourself - an ego death of sorts-  which has the capacity to transform you, forever - you are given the medicine of complete detachment, acceptance and forgiveness where the relationship ends within you – while the literal death of losing someone via reciprocal love - is a sweeter pain – ultimately you are left to reconfigure and divert the channel of love through the spiritual and invisible realm where the relationship continues forever.


2. CALL over text- make the time - even if you have 5 mins. The alchemy of connection via voice, sound, a real LIVE person is medicine for the griever's Soul to process during hard times. You can make such a difference! The first 2 weeks are critical for the initial shock of loss - Check in often during this delicate initial period. Use your intuition – every situation is different – the nature of your relationship and who they lost will determine how to connect. Don't let the busyness of the world get in the way of being a loving support. 

3. The griever WANTS to talk about their “loved one”! Don’t be afraid to ask questions like: What were they like? Can you share a story? What’s coming up for you, today?  

   4a. It’s hard, confusing and crazy. One min you are spiritually on-board with the plan and the next minute you are caught in the “what the fuck and why ?“. Expect to feel - EVERY SINGLE EMOTION - even in one day! That includes periods of numbness. 

4b. You can feel JOY - this can feel jarring which can trigger Shame or Guilt - this is understandable given the nature of contrast. Allow yourself to feel and embrace all emotions - ride them through- rather than try to change them. It's ok to feel joy.

5. That said - Your feelings are never too much.

6. Cry Cry Cry – let this innate internal cleansing system help you, heal and wash out your pain. It's a tool to encourage especially in the first 2 weeks.


7. It's ok - have the wine or cake if that is what this new state is calling for and its just too hard, not too. Own it and do it.  You don’t need your own guilt trip on top of it all – its not the end of the world. Trust, it's temporary – because it is.  

8. This is a powerful energetic period– when we have strong emotional event -  lean in deep– God/Love is right there. Ask for support and what you need.  

9. Talk to them "their Soul" They hear us and see us. Perhaps you have some unfinished business – tell them - whether they have passed or not.

10. Unprocessed grief can manifest in disease. I have no doubts. We must give ourselves the time and space to really grieve in the first 2 weeks but to fully digest a loss can take years. We must express and release and manage our pain and love through our bodies.

11. Get all the long hugs possible.  

12. We process grief in different ways. Honor your way, as you honor others.

13. Expect that some people will not show up the way you need them too - this is very difficult as you are already in pain - but this is a reminder that perhaps you couldn't show up in the past for others as you would have liked - this is part of shadow-work - forgiving yourself and them. Recognizing the importance of support of those that do and being there to support yourself.

13. This too shall make you stronger - This too shall pass.
