District 7 Newsletter, July 16
Dear Friends,

City Manager Spencer Cronk has released his proposed budget for the City of Austin FY 2022-23. The City's Fiscal Year begins October 1, and for the next month, Council will work on finalizing City finances.
The budget reflects choices and priorities for the City, and your input is important. Key dates for the process include:
  • Community Budget Input Meetings: July 27, Aug. 2
  • D7 Budget Town Hall: 10 am Aug. 6th, Northwest Rec Center
  • Council budget work sessions: Aug. 9 and Aug. 11
  • Budget adoption: Aug. 17
The August 6th Budget Town Hall is a chance for D7 constituents to discuss the budget with top City financial staff. Budget and Financial Services Officer Kerri Lang will be there in person to review the Budget and answer questions.

District 7 has a new park!

We cut the ribbon for Alderbrook Pocket Park and Playground! This wonderful space features canopy trees, nature-based playscapes, a community garden, a covered pavilion with picnic tables, and big fields. Alderbrook Pocket Park is the result of a twelve year collaboration between the Austin Parks Foundation, Friends of Alderbrook Park, and PARD. I know many will cherish this special place for generations to come.

Burnet Road Corridor Improvements

Construction has begun for the Burnet Road Corridor Improvements project. With new sidewalks, improved signaling, shared pathways, and upgrades in turn lanes and pavement, Burnet Road between Justin Lane and MoPac will become safer, more accessible, and more connected. I'm so pleased work has begun. Watch this video to learn about these improvements!

Heat Safety

The City is offering many resources during this ongoing dangerous heat, from life-saving information about heat stroke, to cooling center locations. Find ways to lower your energy bills here, and remember, we're in Drought Stage 1. The record-breaking heat is causing significant challenges for the Austin Animal Shelter and the animals there. Please foster or adopt, particularly large dogs, if you can.

To avoid power outages, ERCOT asks we all conserve electricity, particularly during peak hours.

And please put your garbage and recycling out by 5:30 am -- we're moving up collection to keep our city employees from overheating.

Mark your calendars for the D7 Budget Town Hall on August 6th, and let's get through this summer together.

Leslie
