Summer Fun!

Well, we can't believe camp is coming to an end this week! Building Blocks to Kindergarten, On-site Fun in the Sun, and both Beach Camp groups have been a huge success! We hope you enjoy our last newsletter and the rest of your summer!

We have been fortunate to have so many warm (hot!) and sunny days for beach camp this session, and our campers have been taking full advantage of the weather and time with each other. We have had lots of water play both at the park and the beach to keep ourselves cool. With brushes and buckets of water “paint”, campers have painted the Burnham Shores play structures so much it is surely the cleanest in Evanston. More fun activities include swinging, blowing bubbles, and playing “Taryn get me!” When we need a break, we appreciate the breezes off the water while we play, draw, and read together under the shady trees. Even our few poor weather days ended up with fun, whether at SLC or piling into Bethany’s car to take shelter from the storm (that wasn’t all that stormy after all). At the beach, we’ve seen so much confidence growing as friends jump waves, swim, and splash together. It’s amazing how quickly the weeks have flown by. We have loved sharing them with your children!

Blue Group
Our blue room friends in Building Blocks to Kindergarten have had so much fun together!  Our field trip to Trader Joe's was awesome; the kids even got to ring up an item on the cash register!  We have enjoyed being out in the community; going to the lakefront and exploring different parks, including a trek all the way to a park near Main st.  Jumping Julie has been a hit- practicing baseball skills and surfboarding!  We have played various bingo and board games, done lots of cool art projects and read lots of books, in addition to many other activities.   What a great group!  We are sad for it to end; hope everyone enjoys the rest of summer!!

The first week we learned all about pets. We set up a vet clinic and learned how to take care of animals - we listened to their hearts, measured their blood pressure, fed them, bathed them, and put bandages. Our art projects were suncatcher goldfish that we decorated with gems and tissue paper and pet bird that we decorated with feathers. We also worked on pet collars though-out the week.
The Second week we explored desserts. We set up an ice cream parlor and sold, served, and delivered delicious desserts. At our art table we made ice cream using cotton circles and pipets, cupcakes that we decorated with puffy paint and pompons, and doughnuts where we used yarn for sprinkles. We played a new board game to help Pete the Cat find hid cupcakes and measured our height in ice cream cones.
This last week is dedicated to transportation. We are making a car, a hot air balloon, and a boat. We plan to set up a parking garage in the classroom and a couple of ramps. Hopefully no one will get any parking or speeding tickets! Joel and his guitar Gabriella came back for the last week of camp and we loved seeing him again! With Jumpin Julie we learned how to surf play baseball. So much fun!

Orange Group
SLC Beach Camp has been so much FUN for the Orange Group!
We are so very happy with the amazing weather we have had!
Time at the park has been great--the tire swing in particular has been a favorite for many. But others enjoy the very cool bubbles we make, the chalk art on the sidewalk OR the "chalk soup" in our water buckets. And let's not forget the mini helicopters and jets that create an amazing scene! We are also super excited about some of the big waves we got to jump and dive into! Making friends and jumping waves in the sun! NOW THAT IS SUMMER!
