Healing through Art

Join us online on August 9 at 11:30 a.m. for our next edition of A Seat at the Table. This discussion will focus on the important role art plays in healing and empowering people who are incarcerated as well as how art influences the re-entry process. Panelists include Justice Arts Coalition (JAC) founder and executive director, Wendy Jason. Brett Gonzales is an artist and is currently incarcerated in a federal facility in Fort Worth, Texas. He also serves as JAC board chair. And, Carole Alden, an artist who started drawing while incarcerated. She serves JAC as a member of their Advisory Council and is the founder of Desert Shelter + Healing Art Project

A Seat at the Table is an intentional effort to elevate cultural equity, diversity, and inclusion in our arts and culture community. Each conversation includes a panel of community partners sharing how they've been working towards cultural equity and how we, as a community, can collaborate to elevate the arts.

A Seat at the Table is free, but registration is required. The conversation is facilitated by Kate Hightshoe.

Introducing the Micro-Grant Dinner

A Micro-Grant Dinner is a ticketed event that features presentations by five local artists who are seeking community support for their next creative project.

Enjoy dinner, drinks, and great networking with the creative community while learning more about the artists. Each artist will share their idea in a PuchaKucha-style presentation. After experiencing each idea, the audience votes on their favorite. The artist with the popular vote takes home the proceeds generated from ticket sales as a micro-grant to accelerate their project.

Tickets are limited and are now on sale. Get yours today!
