Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month, which aims to celebrate and share the experiences of people with disabilities. The month provides a chance to share the joy and pride that people with disabilities can bring to their local and global communities.

Additionally, July 26th is National Disability Independence Day. This day commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26th, 1990, thirty-two (32) years ago. The ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, State and local government, public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation, and telecommunications. Since the ADA was signed, many social and physical barriers have been removed or reduced for people with disabilities, but there is more to be done.

At BPCA we’re proud to make accessibility a priority within and across our public spaces. Our South BPC Resiliency Project, set to begin construction later this year, is designed to provide universal access, a design concept aimed at meeting the needs of all users, with and without disabilities. Should a member of the public with a disability require a reasonable accommodation in order to access BPCA’s parks, facilities, or programs, that individual may contact BPCA’s Designee for Reasonable Accommodations noted below.

Open House – Still Open!

Thanks to all who participated in the June 29 North/West Battery Park City Resiliency Project Open House — we appreciate the feedback we received from all in-person participants.

To keep the conversation going, after the in-person event we launched a virtual version of the North/West Battery Park City Resiliency Project Open House, which is open through July 31, 2022. In this virtual activity, you can watch a video, review meeting materials, and add comments to the materials.

The next public meeting related to this project will be the Draft Environmental Impact Statement Scoping Meeting, which will take place this fall. BPCA will announce a date for this public scoping meeting in the next few months.

In Case You Missed It

On June 29, at 6 River Terrace BPCA and AECOM held a virtual Open house on the North/ West Battery Park City Resiliency Project where attendees learned about the project and provided feedback .

The Battery Park City Authority hosted and opera company Teatro Grattacielo performed the operatic rendition of Giulietta e Romeo, in Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Park on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5.

The Swedish Midsummer Festival was held in Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Park on Friday, June 24.

River & Blues with Nicole Atkins
The first of the River & Blues outdoor music concert series was held in Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Park last Thursday night.

River & Blues: Eljuri & Cha Wa
Thursday, July 14

Touted as one of the top Latina guitar players in the world, Eljuri is a genre-fusing artist that blends the sounds and rhythms of her life experiences into her song-writing and guitar playing. The infectious music and dazzling stage show of Grammy-nominated Cha Wa has been described as “funk with feathers” – a sound rooted in traditional New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian music mixed with funk and soul, creating a non-stop groove machine. Cedric Burnside was born into a prominent family of North Mississippi Hill Country legends. BPC Business Core Walking Tour 2

Tour 2 of the Museum's three thematic walking tours of Battery Park City focuses on the commercial core with its 1980s skyscrapers of the original World Financial Center (now Brookfield Place) designed by architect Cesar Pelli, as well as the expansive North Cove Marina and its public realm.

Virtual Author Talk: "The World Played Chess" by Robert Dugoni
