UMFNE Grant

New England Justice for Our Neighbors gratefully announces our receipt of a generous grant from the United Methodist Foundation of New England (UMFNE).

Through this grant, UMFNE will support both our programmatic and our infrastructure goals over the coming year, especially in the areas of expanding our donor base and enhancing our communications.  We look forward to this partnership, which will allow us to strengthen our foundation and better serve our immigrant neighbors.

10th Birthday Party Tickets - Time's Running Out!

Time is flying by, and our 10th Birthday Party celebration is just a few weeks away!  We need an accurate count of attendees so that we can have a successful event.  Click here for party information and to purchase a ticket or table as soon as possible.

This outdoor, tented event will be an opportunity to celebrate a decade of service, see old and new friends in person, enjoy music and refreshments, and look ahead to another decade.

Complete information about purchasing tickets, event sponsorship, and volunteering can be found on our website here or by clicking on the party icon.  Whether you're a long-time supporter or just curious about New England Justice for Our Neighbors, we hope you'll join us.

Responding to the Roe Reversal

On June 24th, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ruling that the Constitution does not protect the right to abortion and also signaling an attack on a wide array of other privacy rights.  About half of the states are now poised to outlaw or severely restrict abortion access.  The National Justice for Our Neighbors network condemns this decision and its horrific implications regarding fundamental reproductive, civil, and human rights.  We believe in the inherent dignity of everybody, every body.

While the reversal of Roe is an attack on all childbearing people and all girls, it will be particularly harmful to people of color and members of other marginalized groups (or more than one marginalized group), who are more likely to experience barriers to abortion and reproductive healthcare services.  Pregnant Black people also experience maternal mortality rates two to three times higher than those of white people.

Meanwhile, access to abortions will become much more hazardous for the undocumented, many of whom do not speak English, are poor, and cannot lawfully drive.  If they obtain an abortion illegally, that act can increase their risk of deportion or detention.  If they attempt to travel to another state to obtain care, they may be stopped at a border patrol checkpoint and similarly risk deportation.

Roe's reversal further endangers and criminalizes migrants and will result in additional death, incarceration, family separation, and life-altering trauma.  We encourage all of our friends and supporters to take up the fight for immigrants' rights in the abortion rights arena in addition to the many other ways in which you support our immigrant neighbors.

Did You Know?

The Supreme Court recently ruled that the Biden administration may end the Trump-era program, MPP.  This ruling allows the Biden administration to cease the "Remain in Mexico" program, which sent immigrants to Mexico to await court dates and other proceedings in the U.S.  Title 42, which uses COVID as an excuse to bar entry to migrants, is still in effect for now.  Legal cases are ongoing.
