Update 9 for Get Off My Lawn!

Thank you for subscribing for updates for A Whim Away's new book, Get Off My Lawn! The novella was quietly released yesterday, on the 15th of July 2022. The book may be released, but there's still more work to do.

Last week, I promised talking about the audiobook production process, from the perspective of the author.

The audiobook process began when I contacted Bronwyn from Spineless Wonders about a new book. I told her the word count, and the fact that I wanted a male narrator this time. I sent across a chapter sample of my manuscript, and she returned with a narrated sample from one of her voice actors, Lewis Scamozzi. I was 90% happy with the sample, the only thing that needed tweaking was the voices of the characters.

Once I sent the manuscript and signed the contract, we booked a recording session. Marty Gallagher of echidnaaudio has a sound booth located in the beautiful Powerhouse Museum. There, I met Lewis for the first time. We discussed the character's voices, and he told me got a better idea between doing the sample and reading the manuscript. The voices are basically Lewis' interpretation from the text, I gave very minimal guidance, and I was very happy with it.

I only needed to wait a week or so before the final edited version was ready to final checks. Marty did a flawless edit! It will get uploaded onto the distribution platform soon.

By the way, did you know that if you bought the Kindle and Audible versions together, it forms a read aloud function, called Whispersync? It's a nifty feature where the audiobook syncs with the text as it's playing, and even highlights the current word for you. 

In the next update, I will talk about consignments, distribution, and a book fair.
