Guide on Home Leave & Holiday Travel

We know there’s a lot to think about when preparing for your helper to take their home leave. Don’t worry, our Quick Guide on Home Leave will help make sure you have all things covered. You can check it out on this link here

Starting last May, employers are required to purchase mandatory insurance for their workers in the Philippines in order to apply for the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), even if they have purchased insurance for their workers in Hong Kong. If your worker is travelling back to her home for vacation, he/she would need to obtain an OEC so he/she could exit the Philippines and return to Hong Kong. Read more about OEC here. Employers can purchase the mandatory insurance from recognised insurance providers in the Philippines. We’ve created a comparison chart of insurance policy options here.*

With more countries opening up their borders and the shortened quarantine period, many employers may want to ask their domestic helpers to travel with them over the summer holiday. But, there’s a few things to think about before booking that holiday, especially in times of COVID. Read our article on whether domestic helpers can travel overseas with their employers here

*For reference only. Fair Employment Agency does not endorse any particular insurance policy and we are not affiliated with any of the insurance providers. Please check directly with the insurance provider for the most updated prices and coverage. The final approval and requirements lie with the authorities and we advise employers to check the latest situation before their workers' departure.

Visa Extension and Contract Renewal

The Government announced (link) on 27 June 2022 that employers can now extend existing contracts with their outgoing helpers for a maximum period of six months. These will be for contracts that are set to expire on or before September 30, 2022. Contract extension must be agreed upon by both the employer and the helper. Read more about Visa Extension in our Get Answers article here
