Can a Christian be
Demon-possessed?

Believe it or not, the question is often asked “Can a Christian be demon-possessed?” Being that our culture declares that demons do not exist, and that anyone who imagines that demons do in fact exist should probably be locked up.

Most people when asked if they believe in angels would say yes, because angels make the feel good. For Christians who take their Bibles seriously, the existence of the demonic along with the warnings to be vigilant are found throughout the New Testament, and is presupposed in Orthodox spirituality and in our liturgical tradition.

All Orthodox Christians believe (or at least should believe) in the reality of the demonic. Demons are not little black imps with pointy tails and cloven hoofs, and they do not perch on your shoulder wielding pitch-forks. Orthodox theology in fact says that they are bodiless, like the angels.

The question remains: Can a Christian be possessed by one of them? No one disputes that a Christian can sin, and can have sinful habits, .To open oneself up to the demonic one needs first to open oneself up to extreme sin and feed upon it constantly and deliberately. Lingering long and repeatedly in such dark places is dangerous, and increases the possibility of addiction and infestation. Such an infestation of the sin cannot be overcome through prayer, fasting, and participation in communion, or if one reacts negatively to the presence of Christ and his church.

If one accepts the New Testament record as reliable, then the delusion  of "once saved always saved" may cause the believer to drop his or her vigilance (
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.) I Peter  5:8.

The good news just doesn't stop...

As many of you may have noticed the recent increase of younger families and particularly young men who have been attending church has called for the reinstatement of our Men's Club.

To this purpose a new official e-mail has been set to keep all informed.

Worth repeating

While we consider our local area to be
 "church-oriented"

recent statistics show a different story

In the past ten years:

ALL CHURCHES IN  MONROE COUNTY HAVE SEEN A MAJOR DOWNTURN IN PARISHIONERS.

Here lies the entire story.

Consider this...

COMMON SENSE!
A recent Pew study has told us that over 80% of Americans haven't given up on God...THEY STILL BELIEVE!  Why then is church membership falling off? Did you know that Monroe County statistics (2010) lists 54.5%  of the population has given up on any church?  Yet  most churches continue to "modernize" and cater to the outside world and create "churches of nice" devoid of Theology and as such answers to life's questions.
While the "outside-in" churches don't see " the handwriting on the wall" we offer the opposite! Is the purpose of the Church to accept the weaknesses of the outside world or to transform the world? WELL! people vote with their feet.
The numbers don't lie...although a new survey hasn't yet been conducted, it will show that we at St. George, Monroe's Orthodox Church, are bucking the downward trend...WE ARE GROWING!

THE ORTHODOX CHURCH FOR ALMOST 2000 YEARS WITNESSES AND SHARES
THE SAME  CHRIST:
YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW!

But then shouldn't we seek the one truth?

STOP AND THINK!
