School starts soon!
Make sure your kids have their required vaccines before the first day.

The school year begins on Monday, August 8, and the Southern Nevada Health District is encouraging parents and guardians to make immunization appointments for their children as soon as possible to ensure they are ready for the first day.

There are mandatory requirements for children entering kindergarten, 7th grade and 12th grade. The Health District’s immunization clinics are open Monday through Friday and services are available by appointment. The Health District will also be offering weekend back-to-school immunization clinics at its 280 S. Decatur Blvd. public health center on Saturday, July 30 and Saturday, August 6. Appointments are required for immunization clinics at the East Las Vegas, Henderson and Mesquite public health centers.

Limited walk-in clients will only be accepted at the Health District’s 280 S. Decatur Blvd. public health center. Appointments for the immunization clinics, including the Saturday clinics, and can be made online at www.snhd.info/bts. People without computer access can make appointments by calling (702) 759-0850 for Las Vegas and Henderson clinics or (702) 759-1682 for the Mesquite Public Health Center.

Starting July 1, students enrolling in the 12th grade in Nevada public, private or charter schools must have received the meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) at age 16 years or older prior to the start of the 2022-2023 school year. MenACWY is also required  for students entering 7th grade and for students entering the 8th through 12th grades who are new to Nevada schools, including private or charter schools and the Clark County School District. In addition, 7th graders must receive their tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine.

The Clark County School District requires the following vaccinations for students enrolling in school: chickenpox (varicella), hepatitis A, hepatitis B, polio, tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (DTaP and Tdap), quadrivalent meningitis, and measles-mumps-rubella (MMR). Parents who recently moved to Nevada should note hepatitis A vaccination is required in the state. Immunizations that were up-to-date in other states that do not require hepatitis A vaccination might not be current in Nevada. For a list of immunization requirements for school, visit Immunize Nevada’s School, Child Care, and University Vaccine Requirements page.

Parents or guardians vaccinating a child at a Health District clinic should bring immunization records. Parents or guardians who cannot locate immunization records should contact their health care provider. If their children were immunized in Nevada, parents can also visit Nevada WebIZ, a statewide immunization registry, at https://izrecord.nv.gov/public/Application/PublicPortal or call Nevada WebIZ at (775) 684-5954. Non-custodial adults may accompany a child; however, written consent must be provided to the Health District from the parent or guardian at the time of service. Administrative fees and cost of vaccines may be applied depending upon insurance status.

The Health District accepts most insurance plans. Not all immunizations are covered by insurance. Contact the Health District’s immunization clinic for information and current fee schedule at (702) 759-0850 or visit the Health District’s Back-to-School Vaccine Clinics webpage.

Clark County is at a high COVID-19 community level

Clark County remains at a high community level for COVID-19, and the Southern Nevada Health District is strongly recommending individuals wear masks when in public indoor places and they stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines. People who have symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 should get tested, and people who are sick should stay home and isolated from others in their household. Those who are at higher risk for severe illness may need to take additional precautions. This can include having a plan for rapid testing if needed and talking to your health care provider about options for treatments with oral antivirals and monoclonal antibodies.
