“We settle our differences at the ballot box.”

-Congressman Bennie Thompson, 6/12/22

 Night of Urgent Action

Tuesday, July 19, 6:30-8:00

Join us and the Newburyport Democratic City Committee to take Urgent Action on Tuesday, July 19th, from 6:30-8:00 at the Central Congregational Church, 14 Titcomb St.  We are joining forces to:

  • Write postcards in support of pro-choice candidates in critical swing states.
  • Learn about phone banks hosted by I-RISE to register voters and get out the vote and by Moms Demand Action to elect candidates who support common sense gun laws. Make calls if you are ready to get started.

  • Train to text voters on key issues, particularly concerning protecting abortion rights and getting out to vote, and text as a group if lists are available. Texting is fun and fast, and you don’t use your phone (so, please bring your laptop to train and text with us.)

  • Hear about how productive and positive it is to canvass and how much our help is needed for national elections in neighboring New Hampshire and for local and state elections here.

  • Receive resource materials to help guide you to take additional actions and donate to help turn back this tide of right wing minority rule.

Come join us to learn, act, and gain strength and motivation from our community! There will be plenty to do and learn whether you are an activist veteran, came to the last evening of action, or want to try this work for the first time!

When we last gathered for an evening of action, 150 like-minded community members who care about democracy, protecting our personal reproductive decisions, reducing gun violence, and other critical issues came together and accomplished a lot in one evening. Please join us as we do it again!

RSVP’s are not required, but please email us so that we have an idea of how many to expect: indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com

  Postcards for Choice

Fridays 4-5 pm or Postcards-to-Go

At both our in-person Action Hour each Friday 4-5pm at NU Kitchen, 19-23 Pleasant Street and through our Postcard-to-go program, we are writing postcards to encourage voting for pro-choice candidates in swing states. At Action Hour, we write postcards to voters in the sunny, comfortable cafe, enjoying each other’s company along with tasty beverages and treats. If you want to write postcards on your own instead of or in addition to Action Hour, please join our Postcards-to-Go writing team. You pick up a packet of 50 postcards, we’ll email addresses and scripts as you need them, and you provide postage. For more information about Postcards-to-Go, please email us at indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com or come to Action Hour where we’ll have packets of 50 cards and will explain the details.

More Calling Options

Sundays, 3-4:30 pm
Mondays and Tuesdays, 4-6 pm
Wednesdays, 3-5 pm

We have added to our phone bank campaigns to best meet pressing needs, accommodate more callers and offer variety. Our current phone banks are:

We're joining up with the Moms Demand Action MA-CALLTogether team on Sundays at 3-4:30 pm to call constituents in key districts and connect them directly to their legislators to encourage them to vote for gun safety measures. RSVP Here for Sunday June 17th.  For future dates please email to robrien.ma@gmail.com

Call Wisconsin Democrats on Mondays at 4-6 pm to recruit them to volunteer. This phone bank is a manual dial process to a friendly audience. It is a great way to become comfortable with phone banking if you have been reluctant to try it. Register here.

Call registered Democrats in AZ on Tuesdays at 4-6 pm to encourage them to vote in that state’s August 2 primary. Getting Dems out to vote in the primary will help ensure that they vote in November, which is critical for this battleground state. This phone bank uses a convenient and easy auto-dialer for increased efficiency. Register here.

Call likely Democrats in FL or PA (you choose!) on Wednesdays at 3-5 pm to register them to vote. This is a manual dial process that includes a link to a great tool to register Democrats. Email indivisible.newburyport.rise@gmail.com if you would like to participate (and we'll post the registration link when it is available).

All of these phone banks have voicemail scripts, so you never feel like you are waiting long for someone to answer the phone. If they do not meet your schedule but you’d like to train individually or learn about other phone bank options, please email us at indivisible.newburyport.rise@gmail.com. After training, you’ll have the tools to call whenever you’d like.

Read about our phone bank leader, Becc O’Brien, in a Swing Blue Alliance article here. Kudos to Becc for this well-deserved recognition!

Text Voters

New Time: Mondays 12:30-1:30pm
Thursdays 3:00-4:00 pm

Texting has been varied, interesting and productive, with a lot of texting for pro choice organizations and millions of upcoming texts for Black Voters Matter, among other campaigns.. Texting voters is fun and fast, you don’t use your phone or your number to text, and the texts are pre-populated so you don’t need to type each text.

Register here to join us on Zoom any Thursday at 3:00-4:00. Email indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com if you’d like to participate on a Monday at 12:30-1:30 (and we’ll post the registration link when it is available). Also email us if neither of these times is  good for you, and we’ll be happy to meet with you one-on-one at a convenient time.

Save the Date to Canvass

Sunday, August 14

We’re planning in advance to give enough notice for as many participants as possible to join us to knock on doors either in NH to reelect Maggie Hassan and Chris Pappas or right here at home to elect local Democrats to the MA State Legislature.

Details will follow. For now, please put this date on your calendar! Email indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com with questions or if you’re interested in participating.

Not Sure What You Want to Do

If you are not sure which of these actions interests you the most, please 1) try everything at least once; 2) email indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com and we’ll contact you to find a time to talk about each type of action and work with you to figure out what best suits you, and 3) review our Get Involved 2022 document for more information.

Please sign up here to volunteer with I-RISE. Choose among numerous options and devote as much or as little time as you prefer! Every bit makes a difference!
