When Javier said he had a friend 100s of miles away, no one could have known the wonderful person that God planned to add to our lives. Once their love fully bloomed, he introduced us to his bride, a little woman with a huge personality and an even bigger smile! Most of all, she has huge faith!! So much so, she married Javier and moved from Michigan to Atlanta, trusting God for the man that found her. Now, she has become an awesome wife and mother of two amazing little boys, graduated from college with honors, joined her husband in growing his business, accepted a teaching position, and poured herself into ministry in any way she can. It is a great pleasure to name Sis. Amanda Crump as the July member of the month.

What to know about Juneteenth now that it's a

Federal Holiday:

Despite Juneteenth's storied history, the holiday was largely overlooked by non-Black Americans until recent years.

The momentum of the Black Lives Matter movement propelled Juneteenth into the national spotlight, building on a decades-long push by activists and leaders to get recognition for the landmark occasion. Last year, Juneteenth became the latest federal holiday in the US -- the first to be approved since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.

With Juneteenth now a national holiday, many public and private sector employees enjoy an extra day off from work while brands and corporations capitalize on the event with celebratory marketing campaigns. But there's much more to Juneteenth than a long weekend and branded products.

As Black Americans continue to face the same challenges and inequities that inspired so many to take to the streets in 2020, it's worth reflecting on the history behind the holiday.

2022 WOW Summer Camp

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our 2022 WOW Summer Camp this year. LIFE Inc. has provided an enriching and life changing summer experience for children between the ages 5-13 for the past 20 years.  Each summer we provide a safe and wholesome environment for youth, who would otherwise be at home with little to no supervision, while instilling lifelong principles that enable the children to operate in integrity throughout their childhood and even into adulthood. We do so through activities including math, science, literacy tutorials, singing, dancing, art and crafts, character building, spiritual enrichment, guest speakers, and field trips.  We have countless examples of participants whose entire family’s lives have been changed as a result of attending the W.O.W Summer Camp.  We pride ourselves on having a lasting effect on the children, their families, and the community as a whole and our desire is to continue to provide this life changing experience to as many children as possible.

Street Evangelism: How Important Is It to Get Your

Church on the Streets?

Many church leaders tell us that open air evangelism in the form of preaching or door-to-door evangelism is outdated, that it no longer works because people are post-modern, because people no longer care about heaven and hell, and that promising or warning them of such things means nothing to them. We are told, therefore, that we must engage in lengthy ‘friendship’ evangelism so that lost friends will feel comfortable with us. We will also need to use apologetics to convince people of the validity of Christ and his gospel. It seems, therefore, that many of our churches see very few professions of faith and true conversion. It seems that many of our Reformed churches are very weak on evangelistic outreach.

Certainly we need to build strong, loving, and growing relationships with non-believers, and there is a time and place for apologetics. I am not saying that street evangelism is the only weapon in our arsenal. I am saying, however, that it is one too often neglected today.

 Mask Off

With the resounding relief provided by the nationally revoked mask mandates, American citizens can now feel free to take their protective masks off for the time being. For the believer, single or otherwise, these mandates apply to both the physical and spiritual portions of our relationships with each other and with Christ. The timely topic of authenticity was the subject of one of this month's SAS sessions held on Mondays via Zoom.

The evening began with an engaging Would You Rather quiz.  Dea-Elect Thomas Green then encouraged those in attendance to take the spiritual mask off by getting closer to God, out-truthing the enemy daily, and being intentional about getting and staying free from the enemy's traps . He then ended the evening by bringing out the point that being far away from God puts us in a danger zone. With that, the evening concluded.

CDC Recommends COVID-19 Vaccines for Young

Children

Two brands — Pfizer and Moderna — got the green light Friday from the FDA and Saturday from the CDC. The vaccines use the same technology but are being offered at different dose sizes and number of shots for the youngest kids.

Pfizer’s vaccine is for children 6 months to 4 years old. The dose is one-tenth of the adult dose, and three shots are needed. The first two are given three weeks apart, and the last at least two months later.

Moderna’s is two shots, each a quarter of its adult dose, given about four weeks apart for kids 6 months through 5 years old. The FDA also approved a third dose, at least a month after the second shot, for children with immune conditions that make them more vulnerable to serious illness.

Reading Spot

As we still bask in the new year, this is a great time to designate your "reading spot"! Now I know you are probably wondering, 'what is a reading spot'? Simply put, it's a place you have created to get cozy behind a book. It is the spot you have created just for reading. This month I am sharing 4 Tips on creating the perfect reading spot!

1. Your reading spot should be in a quiet place. This may be a place in your home, such as a corner in a room, the closet, or even the garage. It can also be a place outdoors. Find what works for you!

2. Once you have chosen the space, make it cozy. You want your area to feel warm and inviting. Adding a few throw pillows, a throw blanket, and a nice rug can help create that comfortable space. You can even add a comfortable chair or bean bag. Choose what works best for you.

3. Next, put your favorite books and current reads in that space. It will help remind you that it is your reading spot, and you'll always know where to find your recent books.

4. Lastly, grab your favorite drink, head to your reading spot, and start reading!

Do you have a reading spot? And if not, did you find these tips helpful? Let me know! Please email me at trunaegreen@gmail.com. As always, Happy Reading!

For the  month of June, Couples Are Partners took the #Redeye straight to delicious grub and a filling Word from our facilitators, Bishops A. T. & Rosemary Lands. The topic on the table: How to commit in your marriage.

The lesson states: Commitment is an essential quality of any successful relationship, whether it involves a personal friendship, a financial agreement, a business contract, or your marriage. The couples discussed ways that commitment can be displayed by each spouse. One way was the essential act of offering forgiveness. Jesus gives it freely and so should we!

Join Couples Are Partners at 9:00AM on Sunday mornings at Family Life M. B. Church for Marriage Small Group lessons. We can’t wait to see you there!
