Dairy Beef Progeny Test sire nominations

Final reminder - less than one week to go!
Nominations for the Dairy Beef Progeny Test and the Beef Progeny test nominations' close Monday 25th July!

Once again B+LNZ Genetics are calling for sire nominations for both the Dairy Beef Progeny Test and the Beef Progeny Test. As you would have seen breeds (including NZ Herefords) are using the results of these tests to promote their own breed above others.
B+LNZ Genetics and co-funders LIC, are calling for sire nominations for the 2022 mating of the B+LNZ Genetics Dairy Beef Progeny Test at Pāmu’s Wairakei Estate Renown Farm.

This project aims to improve the quality of dairy beef calves in the industry by identifying and enabling widespread use of superior bulls for dairy beef. Top bulls can be used in AB programmes in the dairy industry and in breeding programmes to generate good bulls for use over dairy cows.

Nomination fee to the value of $1250 will be reimbursed by NZ Herefords, if option 1 is selected (assistance for semen collection can be requested to NZ Herefords).

Nomination Deadline: Monday 25th July, 2022

B+LNZ Genetics are inviting breeders to nominate bulls for the 2022 mating of their across-breed Beef Progeny Test at Pāmu’s Kepler farm, Te Anau, and a new North Island site – Rimanui Farms’ Lochinver Station, Rangitaiki Plains.

This Progeny Test will be fundamental to a multi-breed evaluation by providing both linkage between breeds and New Zealand collected data to be able to accurately estimate hybrid vigour. With the addition of the North Island site, nominations will be open to Angus, Hereford and Simmental bulls.

Cattle will be Artificially Inseminated in December 2022 (Kepler) and January 2023 (Lochinver). Angus and Hereford bulls will be used across both breeds of cows. Simmental bulls will be used across Angus cows at the Lochinver site.

Nomination - FREE (assistance for semen collection can be requested to NZ Herefords)

Have your say on the future of the New Zealand beef industry.

The Informing New Zealand Beef programme lead by Beef + Lamb New Zealand (B+LNZ) Genetics is asking beef farmers to take part in a Trait Prioritisation Survey to help inform the direction the programme takes in developing a genetic evaluation for the industry. The survey aims to gain valuable insights into farmer demographics, views and behaviours around genetics and indexes, and trait preferences. It will also help prioritise traits of importance to those taking part in the research.

Take the survey and tell B+LNZ Genetics what traits are important to you – www.INZB-trait-survey.com
