Kia ora <<First Name>>,

It's Claire Achmad here - the Board Chair of ShelterBox New Zealand

I wanted to take a moment to share my thanks, on behalf of the ShelterBox New Zealand team, for your generous support of our recent Emergency Response Appeal for Ukraine.

Our global vision at ShelterBox New Zealand is no one without shelter. Shelter is a basic human right. More than just four walls and a roof, shelter is a foundation for life, for community, and for family.

The emergency shelter and essential aid that your donation is contributing towards will not only help families in Ukraine rebuild their lives, but it will also help them find hope for a brighter future, after some of their darkest days.

Over the past few months, our ShelterBox teams have been in on the ground in Moldova, Poland, and Western Ukraine, where they are coordinating with our trusted partners and other organisations to distribute our aid to as many people as possible who are in need as a result of this crisis.

We are working on three projects - two in Ukraine, and one in nearby Moldova:

  • Working with our partner, People in Need, we are providing thousands of mattresses to collective centres in Lviv, Ukraine, to help people sleep at night and get much-needed rest during the day.
  • Working with our partner, Relief Aid, we are distributing thousands of ShelterKits, containing tarpaulins, tools, rope, thermal blankets, solar lights, buckets, water carriers, and hygiene items, to help those living in damaged buildings in Ukraine to survive.
  • Working with our partner, ACTED, we are helping those who are crossing the border into Moldova to meet their basic needs, by distributing hygiene kits, sanitary products, and cash assistance.

We have been receiving photos from our teams in Ukraine, showing our aid being distributed.

Pictured here is Igor, who has said “we are very grateful for the ShelterKits, we will use it for the remains of what was left of our house, the house was destroyed almost completely, I plan to rebuild my house in the future. I have a wife and three children who left when the war started”.

This is your support in action. This is the difference your donation to ShelterBox is making. Thank you.

Over the coming months, we'll keep you updated on our work, and on how your support is making a difference to families in Ukraine.

It’s sobering to remember that UNHCR estimated last year that there are over 84 million displaced people worldwide. With the ongoing impact of the Ukraine crisis, that number is growing significantly, due to the over 7 million people now displaced from Ukraine alone.

Thank you for donating to ShelterBox – with your donation, you are actively contributing to our global vision of no one without shelter after disaster. Your help means the world to these families.

With gratitude and sincere thanks, nāku noa, nā,
Dr Claire Achmad
