  Comprehensive Exam Paperwork


The deadline to submit Comprehensive Exam Paperwork for graduating master's students is Friday, July 29. Forms must be filled out and signed electronically and sent via email to The Graduate College at gcdegspcl@txstate.edu. If you have any questions, please contact gcdegspcl@txstate.edu.

  Fall Registration


Have you registered? Please review your degree audit and communicate with your advisor to ensure that you are registering for courses that count toward your degree. To register for classes, go to CatsWeb. The last day to register for fall without a fee is July 31.

  New Graduate Student Orientation: Meet & Greet


Are you a new student who started a graduate program in Spring, Summer, or Fall 2022? If so, please join The Graduate College at New Graduate Student Orientation: Meet & Greet on the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses. At these events, you will be able to: 
  • Browse university-wide student resources at the support services showcase and get your questions answered by representatives. 
  • Meet new graduate students from programs across campus and the deans and staff of The Graduate College. 
  • Attend breakout sessions with university resource experts to learn more about achieving success in grad school. 
  • Enjoy games and snacks, and enter to win raffle prizes, including a Grand Prize containing a $100 Texas State Bookstore gift card, $50 worth of gift cards to local restaurants, and $50 worth of Texas State and Grad Collage swag! 
The Graduate College will host NGSO: Meet & Greet events on both the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses, so you can attend the event at the campus that houses your program! Please reach out to gcevents@txstate.edu if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!

New graduate students are also encouraged to enroll in the online New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO): Canvas course. This self-paced Canvas site is designed to set you up for success by providing you with helpful information and resources to enhance your academic experience at Texas State!  Enroll today!

Grants Part IV: Creating a Budget for a Grant Proposal (Online)

This Shop Talks session is the final part of a four-part series that introduces graduate students to the grant-writing process. This session will focus on the funding request at the heart of a grant proposal – budgets and budget justifications. Attendees will learn about the categories of allowable expenses, direct and indirect costs, and common formats for budgets. If you want to learn how to craft well-researched, persuasive requests for funding, this session is for you!

External funding opportunity: National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP)

Program Overview: provides three years of financial support for graduate students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), STEM education, and NSF-supported social sciences
Eligibility: graduate students may apply in either the first year or the second year of graduate school
Citizenship: U.S. citizens and permanent residents
Benefits: annual stipend of $37,000 and a $12,000 cost-of-education allowance per year for tuition and fees, for up to three years (total award of $147,000)
Deadline: October 17-21, 2022 (depending on discipline)
If you are interested in applying, you are encouraged to attend one of three upcoming Dollars & Sense: NSF GRFP webinars. Attending one of these webinars is highly recommended for all prospective applicants. If you are unable to attend but are considering applying to the NSF GRFP this fall with assistance from our external funding coordinators, you must email gcexternalfunds@txstate.edu by Friday, July 29, to request access to a recorded version. Students who do not attend one of the live webinars will be required to watch a recording of the complete presentation and pass a quiz to join the campus application process.
