EXTREME TEMPERATURE TIPS

The Texas summer heat has returned - reaching as high as 109 degrees Fahrenheit so far this summer. Excessive heat can make even the shortest trips uncomfortable, and potentially dangerous. To keep cool and stay safe this summer, follow these tips every day:

Stay Hydrated.
Drink water before, during and after activity. Always carry plenty of fluids, even if you're only planning for a short outing just in case stopping for water isn’t an option.

Plan and Prepare.
Avoid the hottest parts of the day, if possible. This is usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Carry a cell phone to call for a ride home or bring money for a bus ride if you get stuck.

Dress to conditions.
Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays. And don’t forget sunscreen!

Recognize the Signs.
Don’t over-exercise and remember to take breaks. Keep an eye out for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Symptoms can begin with a headache or nausea which may be misinterpreted.

Never Leave Anyone Unattended in a Vehicle
Never leave children, pets, or an elderly person unattended in the car. Even on a mild day, the temperature inside a car can rise 20 degrees above the outside temperature in less than 10 minutes.

MOBILITY AUTHORITY TO RESUME BILLING DECLINED TXTAG TRANSACTIONS

Customers with an unfunded TxTag account who have traveled on Mobility Authority facilities beginning May 1, 2022 should expect to receive a Mobility Authority Pay By Mail bill. Due to transaction volume, it is possible customers may receive more than one Pay By Mail invoice. As a reminder, TxTag is not owned nor operated by the Mobility Authority and the Mobility Authority does not have access to TxTag account details.

When a driver uses our roads, toll gantries use radio frequency technology to “read” a transponder, in this case TxTag. If a TxTag is detected on the vehicle, the Mobility Authority sends the information to TxTag, who then either accepts the transaction and it posts to the users’ TxTag account, or declines the transaction. The Mobility Authority typically resubmits the declined transaction three times in a good faith effort to ensure the rejection is accurate. For this round of bills, as additional quality control, we have submitted the transactions a fourth time, and have still received a rejection from TxTag. This means the Mobility Authority has not received payment for these transactions and will begin the Pay By Mail process for these customers.

The Mobility Authority has been assured by TxTag that any declined transactions from their system are appropriate and based on this assurance, we have resumed Pay By Mail billing for such transactions on Mobility Authority roads.

There are several reasons why a transaction might be declined, so we encourage all TxTag customers to log into their TxTag account at TxTag.org to ensure their account has a positive balance; a valid payment method is associated with the account; the license plate is correct; the correct tag is matched to the license plate; and the tag is valid (not labeled damaged or lost but still associated with the vehicle) to ensure their accounts are in good standing and avoid receiving a Mobility Authority Pay By Mail bill in the future. The Mobility Authority does not have access to TxTag’s system or information, so we cannot determine why a transaction has been rejected and we cannot retroactively add transactions to a TxTag account. All Pay By Mail bills will need to be paid to us directly.

To make payment customers should contact the Mobility Authority online at paymobilitybill.com, by mail, or by phone at 1-833-762-8655. All inquiries other than for payment, including inquiring why transactions were not billed to their TxTag account, should be directed to TxTag.

It’s also important that your information is up to date with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. We are legally required to send your first bill to the vehicle’s registration address on file with the DMV, so in order to get your bill on time without any additional fees applied, we need the correct mailing information. Steps on how to update your address with the DMV can be found at https://www.txdmv.gov/node/4817.
