PINKS GOLF FUNDRAISER COMING UP!

September 24 is right around the corner! The Pink Dragon Ladies’ ability to practice, compete, thrive, and inspire depends on the success of this fundraiser. Please register a golf foursome, share this flyer with your friends and family, and help us fill the carts with golfers, the golf course with sponsors, and our coffers with cash for all of our operating expenses.

MANY MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED — Please Contact Deena at Pinkracers@gmail.com. This year’s scramble will be held at The Eagles Golf Club in Odessa.

The auction is a big part of this fundraiser—Please contact Lorraine at lorraine.harbold@gmail.com to help by soliciting or making donations to the auction, helping with publicity and organization. Auctions have a lot of moving parts—please lend your energy and expertise!

NEW ZEALAND —IT’S HAPPENING!

Many team members are planning to travel 8,000-plus miles to the IBCPC Festival in New Zealand to experience the stunning spectacle of thousands of Breast Cancer Survivors from throughout the world coming together to compete and celebrate. We have registered two boats: Pink Dragon Ladies and Pink Hope. Several of our sisters (and sometime rivals) from Survivors in Sinc of Sarasota will be joining our team on the water in New Zealand! There are still a few spaces available, so please contact Pam W. with any additions or changes to your NZ plans.

You may want to consult the Facebook group—Pinks NZ 2023—as you make your travel plans. Follow the festival website for ongoing bulletins.

Let’s make memories together!

Yep, still talking about DREAMS. Dragon Boating is the ultimate team sport. Pulling together in perfect synchronization is not only beautiful to witness, it’s the most effective way to move the boat through the water. But it doesn’t happen without practicing together as often as possible. Please, sign up and show up—bring your positive attitude and support every teammate along the way. In between the storms and summer vacations, let’s commit to paddling and practicing together as often as possible, even in the hot Florida sun!

MEMBER CONTRIBUTIONS

Our unpaid volunteers, coaches, and board members do so much to keep our organization vital. Please we aware that boats, equipment, docks, storage, and race registration have fixed costs. We suggest that members donate $10 monthly to keep us “above water.” If you can donate quarterly ($30) or annually ($120), it will minimize processing efforts. Of course, any additional gifts are welcomed with gratitude. The PDL’s would prefer to receive your tax deductible gift as a check payable to Team Survivor Tampa Bay, mailed c/o Pam Walenczik, 1248 Jasmine Lake Dr, Tarpon Springs, FL 34689. Alternatively, you can give your contribution to Pam at practice, or click here to give to the Pinks online.

THE LADIES OF SUMMER

The Pinks have been gathering together on and off the water for all kinds of reasons - making the most of this dreamy summer season together!

Member Profile: Dee Rodriguez

What have you learned on your cancer and dragon boat journey?

During my cancer journey I have learned who my true friends are… family, friends, a small group at church were my rock…cancer requires a village to overcome.

On my dragon boat journey I have learned that despite all I have been through with cancer, I am also physically strong and can do this thing called dragon boating! I was so scared to even try because I just knew I could never do it. But I can!

What advice would you give to other survivors?

Probably the best advice I could give to other survivors is to not try to do everything alone. People want to help and it’s in your best interest to allow them to help you. Accepting help is not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of being smart and taking care of yourself!

Remember what I said about it taking a village? We all need others.
