Regulatory Updates & Initiatives
|
Here are some key developments and publications from the past year:
- The OSC issued its 2022-2023 Statement of Priorities. It details four strategic goals and 23 priority areas of focus. The final statement of priorities is included in the OSC's Business Plan for the Fiscal Years Ending 2023-2025.
- An independent evaluation of OBSI’s investment mandate found that OBSI met and exceeded its obligations under the Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian Securities Administrators. The report sets out in detail the findings of the evaluation as well as recommendations for the OBSI board and regulators to consider.
- The OSC’s Investor Advisory Panel released its 2021 Annual Report summarizing its activities, submissions, consultations and meetings during the calendar year.
- The OSC published an updated Service Commitment, which provides investors, registrants and market participants with transparency on the standards and timelines they can expect when interacting with the OSC.
- The OSC published its 2021 Annual Report highlighting its work to support investors and firms during unprecedented times, maintain market integrity, and build toward an innovative future.
- The government announced the new Board of Directors of the OSC and adjudicative members of the new Capital Markets Tribunal.
- The OSC is providing approximately $2.7 million in funding for Prosper Canada to deliver financial literacy, counselling and investor protection resources to financially vulnerable Canadians.
- CSA announced the establishment of the CSA Investor Advisory Panel (CSA IAP), and the appointment of its first members.
- Canadian securities regulators, SROs and investor protection funds established a timeline for the new self-regulatory framework. The CSA announced the proposed board members and CEO of the new self-regulatory organization (SRO).
- Canadian financial regulators propose total cost reporting for investment funds and segregated funds. The CSA and the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR) published proposals to enhance total cost reporting for investment funds and segregated funds.
- The CSA and Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) published guidance to help crypto trading platforms understand and comply with requirements under securities law and IIROC rules for advertising, marketing and social media use.
- The CSA published guidance for investment funds on their disclosure practices that relate to environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations, particularly funds whose investment objectives reference ESG factors and other funds that use ESG strategies (ESG-Related Funds).
- CSA published its Report on Achievements and Business Plan.

OSC in the Community
|
OSC in the Community is an outreach program that takes the OSC's regulatory mandate from Bay Street to Main Street. OSC staff travel to communities across Ontario to talk to people about making informed financial decisions and avoiding investment fraud.
