July 2022
Library director Lillie Huckaby presents a letter to library patrons.

Greetings Patrons,

I hope you’re staying cool in this dangerously hot weather.
I would like to introduce you to our Library Board. Mrs. Abera Alexander is our newest Library Board member. Erin Glass is the President, Joyce Witte is the Vice-President,
Giselle Durbin is the secretary, Debra Blaylock, Miranda Molder, Annick Bellemain, Sharon Storms, and Brenda Brown.
The Library Board meets quarterly. The responsibility of the Library Board is to advise the Library Director,
to represent the citizens of the City, and to set policies for the Library. The Mayor appoints people to the library board for three-year terms.
Here is the link to the Library Board page on the Library’s website. https://chickashapl.okpls.org/library-board/

Let's Talk About It

The Chickasha Public Library will host Let’s Talk About It, a project of the Oklahoma Humanities that will take place on the first Thursday of each month from August until December. This is a book discussion series designed for adults 18 and older who are interested in reading, learning, and discussing their thoughts and ideas with others. The topic of this program is Civil Rights and Equality: A Pulitzer Prize Centennial Series, and each month will focus on a different book that explores that theme.

According to the Oklahoma Humanities website, “The five Pulitzer Prize-nominated or -winning books in this series all work toward that same goal: trying to better help us understand our American context and our own unrealized ideals by immersing us in specific historic or contemporary moments, with fully realized individuals experiencing inequality.” The order of the books was chosen because each builds upon literary themes from the previous books, leading to a meaningful conclusion.

Each monthly program will feature a presentation by a scholar focusing on a specific book, as well as a small group discussion where participants will be able to discuss that book with others. All programs will be held from 6:30-8:30 at the Chickasha Public Library, located at 527 Iowa.

Several copies of each of these books are also on display and available to check out from the library.

The Chickasha Public Library received a matching grant from Oklahoma Humanities for this program. Additional funding and refreshments are being provided by the Friends of the Library. Books, services, and other materials for this series are provided by Let’s Talk About It, a project of Oklahoma Humanities. Generous funding and support for this series was provided by the Kirkpatrick Family Fund and Oklahoma City University.
