Can I Ask A Favor?

It’s true. I have published a book on Amazon…and I don’t want you to buy it, but I would appreciate your help with something. We’ll get to that in a moment.

But for now, here’s what it looks like:

Cover of Kindle Edition of Beneath Its Whitewashed Veneer

First, let me explain why you shouldn’t buy it:

The truth is this book is really just an article I published last September on Destination BBQ. If you haven’t already and you’d like to read it, you can find it here. Or, if you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read it for free there as well.

The reason I created the book was to go through the experience of publishing a book on Amazon. Later this year, I hope to publish the 2nd edition of the cookbook as both a print-on-demand and a Kindle version, so I needed to see what the process was like. Not too painful, if I’m honest.

Here’s how you can help, though:

  • Go to Amazon

  • Search for the phrase “BBQ History” and see if you can find it

  • If you can’t find it after a number of pages, then search in the “Books” category or filter by “Kindle Edition”

  • When you find it, check out the sample, etc. If you have Kindle Unlimited, maybe consider getting it and reading it there, since it will be free.

You’re thinking, “Why doesn’t he just give me a link right to it?”

I could, of course, but that wouldn’t really help.

Based on what I understand, Amazon determines which books to show searchers in part based on previous search terms and interest. Of course, purchases and reviews are important, too, but I’m not specifically interested in that part at this stage.

It’s not that I am trying to make any money with this ebook. I’m not. Remember this really is just an experiment to me. What I’m curious about is how and why books show up in search results.

I’d be grateful for your time and any feedback you’d care to share.

Thanks,

Jim
