August 2022

Dear Church Family,

I don’t know about you, but I feel like summer is flying by! Kids (and parents!) are already getting ready for the return to school. I hope you have found ways to stay cool and to squeeze in some rest and relaxation. We intentionally cut back on programs at church during the summer (choir, multiple Sunday school, Bible studies, etc…); but hopefully, like me, you are looking forward to reconnecting with church family as we get back into that school-year schedule. In the meantime there are some significant happenings going on right now in August…

Be sure not to miss youth mission Sunday on August 14. The youth will share during worship about their experience. Thank you for your many prayers and support of them; we want you to hear how God was at work!

Start getting ready now for the Annual Yard Sale on Saturday, September 10, from 7am to 1pm. Save the date and start pulling aside items you’d like to donate to the sale. We’ll be updating you on drop-off information and more as we get closer to the day. This is one of our “big events” and will kickoff our Fall programs, ministries, and outreach.

I’ll also write more next month, but plan to be with us for Rally Day on Sunday, September 11, starting at 9:30am that morning. We’ll preview the Sunday school class line-up as well as mid-week programs. It would be a GREAT time to invite friends to check out Good Shepherd! Choir and worship team will also start afresh in September and we are always looking for additional singers and musicians (also sound, PowerPoint, and Livestream volunteers!). Eric (music@gspc.net or 704-364-1234) would love to talk to you and explore ways you might participate in the music ministry of the church, even if that is an instrument (voice or otherwise) that needs a little “dusting off!”

In Christ,

Robert

FINANCIAL update

June's income and expenses were very close to what we budgeted for.  If you're a tennis fan, you'll understand the phrase "we held serve" in June.  Income was within 5% of our budget and expenses were within 2%.  The more important event that occurred in June was the agreement we reached with the Acton School to rent using Norton Hall on weekdays for their school.  They are starting off with only a handful of students\families and their daily schedule dovetails nicely with our Preschool.  We see this as a way to continue to use the gifts God has bestowed on our church (our buildings) to help fund our ministries.

If you are comfortable with online giving, you can find a link on our website (gspc.net). Click on the word LINKS across the top of every page and "Online Giving" will be in the menu underneath. Or scroll down on the home page and look for the "GSPC SECURE ONLINE GIVING" button.

If you would prefer to mail a check to the church, please send it to our secure mailbox shown below.  Thank you for your support and please continue to stay safe.

YARD SALE 2022

The planning has begun and you'll want to be involved this year.  A couple of changes are being made to improve this year's event.  The sale will be shortened to 7:00 - 11:00am.  This will make it easier on volunteers as we should be finished by lunch time.  We'll also have all the items in the sanctuary and expansion area in the parking lot.  We will not be using Norton Hall so visitors will have fewer places to search for their treasures!

If you can volunteer for this church-wide effort, please email Mark Katibah (mark.katibah@gmail.com) and we'll find you a spot to help make this year's sale as fun and successful as our past sales!!
