Try differently, not harder

Your way is the best way.

Sometimes, there is no one way to do things. Something will work for someone, but not at all for another. Or one day it will work, and the next day it just won't and you'll have to try something else entirely. It can feel frustrating, disappointing, and defeating. Trying the same thing harder isn't usually the answer, you have to try differently

I think it's important to be kind and patient with yourself and try to remember that just because doing it the one way didn't work, doesn't mean there's something wrong with you, that you are doing it wrong, or that thing you are trying to do is just not for you.

It's something I've always struggled with, and still often have to remind myself that my brain isn't the same as everyone else's so it's actually kind of silly to expect it to learn or function the same way.

For example, I love wearing makeup, but I normally hate applying it because I get bored almost immediately. It's tedious, and if I'm not mixing it up, its pretty much the same motions everytime and that is something that makes my ADHD brain buzz. So I watch (but mostly just listen to) a TV show on my phone while I do it. I'm very particular about what I put on, it can't be sad, or so compelling that I wouldn't want to miss some of it, and nothing I have to pay much attention to. That's incredibly subjective and absolutely wouldn't work for everyone, but it has worked wonders for me in carrying out self-care activities that I might otherwise avoid.

Finding creative ways to make self-care less of a chore, or playing a game to learn new skills can be a total game changer. Making something fun or interesting can make it more accessible, especially for folks with ADHD who may struggle to do anything that doesn't really interest them.

There is always someone talking about how their way is the best and the rest of us are doing it wrong. Well, don't listen to them, my way is the best. Just kidding. Kind of. I think your way is the best if it works for you. It turns out there is no best, and a tiny shift in perspective by replacing The Best with best for me could go a long way in eliminating judgment or shame in how we are learning and living

Your way doesn't have to make sense to anyone else. If it works for you, then it works and it's valid.

Tactical Adventures’ Solasta: Crown of the Magister is among the most intriguing games I’ve reviewed. It’s one of those rare gems that you can’t help but suspect only exists because someone spent an entire weekend trying to scratch a specific gaming itch to no avail.

From what we can tell, that someone is the studio’s founder, Mathieu Girard. And, according to an article by Venture Beat’s Jason Wilson, he’s been waiting his whole life to make this game.

A former Ubisoft developer and co-founder of Amplitude Studios (Humankind, Endless Legend), Girard told Wilson that Solasta was his passion project:

“I’ve been a big fan of pen-and-paper RPGs, and I was looking for a way to do it right. Making a new studio seemed like a good way to do that.”

Right off the bat, it’s apparent that Solasta: CotM was developed with the premise of recreating D&D’s fifth edition rules at the forefront — all other considerations would be secondary.

Did you know? 🧠

Fish are raining from the sky in San Francisco this summer. Due to an unexpected surge of cold water, the Pacific anchovy population has skyrocketed. This abundance has attracted a massive influx of seabirds who, on their way back to the Bay with full bellies and overstuffed beaks, are pelting bystanders with accidentally-dropped fish.
