Contemplative Renewal: An Ecumenical Experience for clergy

I arrived home late last night from an 11 day immersion that was created for our group of 18 pastors and 2 leaders to listen deeply to God, to our own spirit and to one another.  Our time together was imbedded in the sacred rhythms of an ecumenical Benedictine community.

Before diving into emails and the many tasks and logistics of life as your pastor, I want to start by offering a piece of the deep nourishment I received - a first glimpse of what I hope to share over the weeks and months ahead of my time away.

Dwelling in the Word:

Matthew 11: 28-30 (The Message)

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?  Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life.  I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

As you read this passage, what catches your attention?
What words, phrases or ideas stand out to you?
How might the Spirit of God be nudging you?

This was a guiding text for us throughout the immersion experience.  I invite you to sit with this passage as well...

Silence has two functions.  The first effect of exterior silence is to develop a sense of interior peace.  The second value of silence is that it provides the stillness that enables the ear of the heart to hear the God who is 'not in the whirlwind.'
