MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:

1 John 2:1-2 (ESV)
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

Sunday, August 7, 2022, we are celebrating in a single service at 10:30am for a great day of worship together.

Here are the celebration points of our worship:
  1. Installing two new called teachers:  Ann Greinke and Jon Wareham.
  2. Blessing our staff at the start of the new school year.
  3. Blessing the Bibles of our third graders
  4. Blessing the backpacks of all kids (new this year!) (So, kids, bring your backpack with you!)
Following the worship, we’ll enjoy lunch for all (free).

So, come on out and join us on Sunday, August 7 for a great day of worship, fellowship, and fun.
The adult education and Connection Group (GC) committee wants to make small group opportunities known and available to you so that you can learn more about the Bible, Christianity, and share fellowship with your church members. We hope these group activities will help build up and anchor your faith, allow you to live a life that imitates Christ, and allow you to speak about your faith in Christ to others. We want these group get-togethers to be valuable, engaging, and convenient for you. So please take the time to fill out the survey either on paper or online. Have you been looking for a way to connect with the students at Faith Lutheran School? Well, here is your opportunity! We are continuing the “Bible Blessings” program this year. We are looking for individuals to sponsor each of the 3rd grade students. A $10 donation will be collected from the sponsors to pay for the 3rd graders “grown up” Bible (3rd grade is the first year that students use a “grown up” Bible in class). In addition to purchasing the Bible, the sponsor will be asked to pray for the student they are sponsoring and their family as well as work on developing a relationship with the student and their family all school year long. Who knows! This relationship may last long past 3rd grade!  The students will receive their Bibles in church on August 7th at the 10:30 service and we will pray for their learning and growth as a congregation. If you are interested in being a sponsor, please email Becca Ford at becca.ford@faithmarietta.org.
This year celebrates the 80th year of LWML's founding.  So, each month we will be collecting at least 80 of something.  In June and July we are collecting 80 (or more!) items of food for our food pantry.  Each month we'll have a different item to be collected and will let you know what it is - keep an eye out!  Right now we are in need of canned staples such as chicken, tuna, fruits, and veggiesHow many will you be bringing to help our neighbors?
We have several opportunities!  We need people to help both as classroom assistants (full and/or part time) and in the after school program, mostly 3-6pm or whenever they can get here after school themselves. Again, this can be pretty flexible.

For more information, call the school office at 770-973-8921.

Worship Changes for Summer Sundays only:

During the months of June and July, the Praise Band will be taking a much-deserved break from their weekly presentations.  11 am service will be the traditional service identical to the 8 am service for Sundays from June 5 through July 31.  Join us in thanking the band for sharing their gifts and talents in service to the Faith family and to our Lord; and wishing them a safe, restful, and blessed summer!

In addition to giving the Praise Band a rest, the nursery workers will be on vacation for the summer.  Please bring your children to worship with you!  We love having the voices of children raised in praise to our Lord, too.  If they get a little too rambunctious or just need a break, you may take them out into the lobby, where there are rocking chairs, coloring books, and crayons.

Since 1995, Faith Lutheran Church has been a member of the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat for Humanity in the northern Atlanta metropolitan region. Faith has participated with other Lutheran churches in the area in the building of over 30 houses for poor families.

Building of new homes will begin again in late fall or early winter 2022. Our big fundraising event to support the builds is coming up. The 18th Annual Taste of Habitat is being held on Friday, September 16, from 7 – 9 PM at The Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta.

We are looking for “volunteer chefs” to represent Faith Lutheran Church at the Taste of Habitat event. Each chef is to prepare 150 small “spoon sized tastes” of your specialty! Appetizers, salads, entrees, desserts. There will be about 50-60 chefs at the event and hopefully Faith will be represented by a few.

If you have question or would like to volunteer to be a chef, please contact Gary Schleicher at
garyandkim23@outlook.com or 908-339-7180.
SAVE THE DATE!!!!!

Our goal this year is to raise $30,000 to build Habitat homes in Metro Atlanta.  More than 60 fabulous chefs from the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat churches will be sharing the foods they love to make.  It’s a fun “date night” (adults only) with outstanding food & drink, great fellowship, and most enjoyable live music.  There will also be a Silent Auction and trivia contest!

How can you participate?

Attend and Buy individual tickets. Mark your calendars!

Volunteer to be a chef—All you have to do is prepare 150 “tastes” of your specialty!  Appetizers, salads and entrees served from 7-8 and desserts served from 8-9.

Contribute a special item, artwork, dinner or theatre tickets, gift package etc. for the Silent Auction.

Be a sponsor or ask your workplace to sponsor the event.  Businesses appreciate the opportunity to market their support for community charities such as Habitat for Humanity.  Sponsorships are Bronze $200, Silver $500, Gold $1000, and Platinum $2,500.

Social Ministry
Mission of the Month:
Help fund Social Ministry

Have you noticed the rising prices of everything?  We all are seeing the impact on our wallets and bank accounts; the dismay when we see what it costs to put fuel in our vehicles!  Now imagine you're already living on the edge, wondering where you'll spend the night tonight?  What's for your next meal?  How are you going to feed the kids?  There are many people right here wondering just that.  Please help us help them!

For June and July we're asking everyone to donate gift cards for gas, Walmart & Target cards, grocery store cards, or cash donations.  Where do you shop?  Surely someone else could use a gift card for there, too.
(Challenge - would you consider purchasing gift cards totaling the amount you just spent on your groceries to be gifted to another family? What about half the amount you just spent? Think about how blessed you are.)  Please put gift cards in Deb Schellman's church mailbox. Donations to the food pantry so we can feed even more families is also a blessing.

Thank you in advance, Faith family, for your generosity!
Faith's Food Pantry

Thank you so much Faith family. With your contributions and help from our community of Pantry Friends were we able to deliver 161 bags of food to Brumby the end of June. The families were so appreciative to see the heavy bags which contained two breakfast, lunch, and dinners, along with fruit and a sweet.

Our next goals are to make end of July bags with toiletries for back to school along with filled book bags. In August we will be making more food bags to be delivered August 30th which is one of the four times a year the Food Bank does not make a delivery to Brumby. Good deals on toiletries will be included in our weekly sale list for July. Thanks to everyone for your support of the pantry. The weekly community distribution at Brumby has climbed to over 200 families weekly.  The Brumby team sees new families every week as the need for this support continues to grow.

The below are advertised grocery prices for Kroger, Publix, and Walmart. The sales ads run from July 20th through July 26th

The pantry needs peanut butter, jelly, mac and cheese, corn bread mix (Jiffy, etc), Tuna Helper,  canned vegetables (corn, peas, black beans, and baked beans) and canned soups for the bags we are doing for delivery in August as our shelves are mostly bare of these items due to the bags that went out last week.

Hope's Happenings

One of our missions is supporting participants of Veterans Court in their rehabilitation.  Here is an article from the Cobb County's newsletter last week.

A second chance for three new graduates

Cobb Superior Court Judge Kimberly Childs and the Drug Treatment Court staff congratulate Caleb, Jeff, and Jason, the newest graduates of Cobb's Drug Treatment Court. The court is one of seven accountability courts in the Cobb judicial system, designed to help people who are charged with non-violent crimes receive treatment for their addictions or diseases and become productive members of society. At today's graduation, the three were joined by many members of their families, sponsors, the Rotary Club and comfort dogs Hope and Rose. The regular Drug Treatment Court track generally lasts 18 to 24 months. In addition, Adam Rozen congratulated the trio on behalf of Marietta Metro Rotary Club and presented them with gift cards from the club, which has been a strong champion of Cobb's accountability courts. Jeff, one of the graduates, is now giving back by cutting hair at The Zone, Cobb County’s only Recovery Support Organization. The main focus of The Zone is to help individuals in recovery stay in recovery by facilitating peer connections in a supportive environment. All of the graduates spoke, thanking their support teams. Jason left us with these thoughts: “Serenity is when you stop dreaming of a better past, and start dreaming of a better future.” Many family members and friends spoke as well, and noted that they were thankful to have their father, friend, and son back.  Good luck to all of our graduates.

Also, I'll be welcoming the students back to Faith Lutheran on Aug 3rd - I can hardly wait to greet all my old friends and meet new ones.  And, I'll get to join them for Chapel at various times throughout the year - how fun!  I'm so excited to get to share God's love with all of them.
