Welcome Our New Board Members!

We are so pleased to announce that Aysia Gilbert and Tammi McGriff have joined the Board of Directors of 904WARD!

Aysia Gilbert is a recent graduate of the University of Florida with a BA in History and African American studies. She currently serves as co-chair for the Jacksonville Community Remembrance Project’s Research Committee.

Tammi McGriff is a Senior Custom Solutions Manager with CSX Corporation. She is also a dedicated community volunteer, serving in leadership roles with United Way, CSX service events, Pace Center for Girls, and the Nonprofit Center of NE Florida.

We are grateful for all the Aysia and Tammi bring to our organization and for their dedication and commitment to shaping the future of our work to end racism so everyone thrives!

Naming Our Little Free Diverse Libraries

We want to make sure all of our communities have access to diverse stories and experiences, so we will be installing 20 Little Free Diverse Libraries across the Jacksonville community. And we need your help! We are getting ready to install our first five libraries, which we will be naming after BIPOC authors. Please click on the link below to vote the five BIPOC authors after whom these locations should be named.

The Intersection of Art & Race

904WARD is partnering with Moving the Margins, an Artist-in-Residence program that provides the exhibition space and an equitable perspective for artists to pursue collaborative, large-scale art installations. We invite you to come view the current exhibition, Shelter in Place, by artist Erin Kendrick, at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, July 19 at the Corner Gallery in the Jessie. Immediately following at 6:30 pm, we will host a Race Cards conversation in the second floor Lecture Hall. We hope you can join us for this exciting event!

Preparing Business & Nonprofits for HB7

The new HB7 law, which goes into effect tomorrow, has placed restrictions on how businesses and nonprofits can discuss topics like race, racism, and privilege in their organizations. This is having a chilling effect on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, so we want to make sure companies and organizations know how to have effective trainings while remaining in legal compliance. We are hosting trainings across the state in July with a labor attorney and training expert to provide guidance and answer any questions people may have:

Monday, July 18 - Online at 10:00 am and Orlando at 3:00 pm

Tuesday, July 19 - Tampa at 9:00 am

Wednesday, July 20 - Jacksonville at 9:00 am

For more information or to register for one of the events, please click the button below.

This training is just $50 for corporate employees or $25 for non-profits during the Flash Sale today and tomorrow - don’t miss out!
