Municipal Affairs is seeking feedback from the public on potential amendments to the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) and the Municipal Government Act (MGA) to enhance accountability and public trust in local elections and local elected officials.
Reviews of the LAEA typically occur following each municipal general election. The most recent election in October 2021 resulted in a number of citizen concerns. Your input will help inform what changes are recommended on LAEA and MGA to improve future municipal election processes.
There are ten (10) questions in this survey, covering the following topics:
- Demographics to understand from what area of the province individuals are responding to the survey;
- Councillor eligibility and disqualification;
- Councillor accountability;
- Councillor Code of Conduct;
- Objecting to voters;
- Voter information confidentiality;
- Recount processes; and
- Third party advertising during municipal elections.
The deadline to complete the survey is July 22, 2022.

Bill S-216, otherwise known as the Effective and Accountable Charities Act, sought to amend the Income Tax Act to empower charities by allowing them to more effectively collaborate with a wider range of organizations, including those without charitable status, which the Act refers to as “non-qualified donees”. Proponents of the Bill said the amendments were necessary to get rid of burdensome and expensive redtape and outdated legal bureaucracy. The Alberta Sport Leadership Association was first conceived as an idea for a sector led organization in January of 2020. The purpose of ASLA is to unite and advance Alberta’s sport sector. On behalf of the Lethbridge Sport Council I would like to congratulate Chris Witkowski for being elected onto the newly formed Alberta Sector Led Sport Association.
The purpose of ASLA is to unite and advance Alberta’s sport sector through 3 main areas of focus:
1. Increase the profile of sport by advocating the positive values and benefits
2. Serve as the unified voice within the Alberta sport community to identify issues and seek mutually beneficial solutions
3. Provide overall leadership and strategic direction to the sport community

The City of Lethbridge has partnered with HelpSeeker Technologies to measure and determine the technology needs of the social sector through a service provider online survey. Information gathered from this survey will be used by HelpSeeker Technologies to inform the Compass Project, an initiative to support your community's digital strategy. Responses will only be accessible to HelpSeeker Technologies. The City of Lethbridge will not access any identifiable responses and will only receive aggregate response information and general themes. This survey should take approximately 12-15 minutes to complete. The survey covers a variety of technology and data-related topics, with questions grouped by theme. The intended respondent is likely in a leadership role and/or works closely with data and technology at your organization. We recommend you download a copy of the survey (LINK) to collect / ensure responses are collected from applicable roles within your organization before completing the online survey.
The survey will close on July 31, 2022. We encourage you to circulate amongst your networks as we are seeking responses across the social services sector.
