New law gives students more virtual learning options

House Bill (HB) 1552 was signed into law last Wednesday by Gov. Mike Parson. The bill passed the Senate by a vote of 29-5 April 20, and passed in the House May 12. A smooth bill passing process in what was otherwise a contentious and inefficient spring session. The bill is named the Charter Equity Funding bill and has two major parts. The first part deals with the funding formula for charter schools in comparison to Public Schools.

The northeast Iowa farmer said the corn on his farm near Waverly is slightly shorter than normal for this time of year, but he expects that to change very soon.

Permit change at this Missouri CAFO worries environmentalists

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is in the midst of taking input on new master general permits for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations — commonly called CAFOs. It’s a process the department goes through every five years. Yet while environmentalists and some farmers and rural advocates see it as an opportunity to restrict pollution from CAFOs, they say a recent permit change is concerning.

A heat advisory is in effect in Kansas City until Thursday night, with heat values up to 108 degrees. Temperatures are staying high at night, which means it's harder to cool off when the sun goes down.

Kansas City is, once again, experiencing a heat wave — with temperatures climbing to dangerous levels all week.
