From the Parish House
This has been a landmark week for the Catholic Church in Australia with 277 delegates gathering in Sydney for the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia to formally vote on motions that will project the Church into the future.

Understanding Our Faith
As an introduction to talking about the Church, I would like to take up last week's newspaper reports on the last Census here in Australia. These reports noted that the percentage of Australians who are believers has declined. This is to be expected!

The Fifth Plenary Council of Australia
The Catholic Church of Australia gathered during the week in Sydney for the Second and final Assembly of the Fifth Plenary Council. Members discussed and voted on the motions outlined in the Framework for Motions document. Stay up to date with the Plenary outcomes.

The rising cost of living
The St Vincent de Paul Society is seeing a sharp increase in demand for support due to the surging cost-of-living, shortage of affordable housing and increasingly insecure work. The recent interest rate increase by the Reserve Bank was another setback for the growing number of Australians struggling to survive. During the week, Cath News highlighted the issues raised by the Society who are calling on the Federal Government to urgently address Australia's housing crisis and financial insecurity experienced by the most vulnerable.
